The Rationale:

Understanding of health issues is imperative in achieving best health results. Out of ten Americans, nine of them have been portrayed as having less information about health care. It is, therefore, the responsibility of the health officials to assume the duty of understanding the entire medical information and address the concerns of the patients. Through the effort of the practitioners in identifying the problems of the patients, they are likely to be challenged and develop an interest in taking care of themselves and therefore improving healthcare outcomes. Strategies to assist medical practitioners such as understanding the common factors, the cultural or societal humility, use of alternative health professionals and resource identification should be incorporated into the professional curriculum governing health. On the other hand, development of faculties should involve all the approaches employed in addressing the issue.

Issues of Positionality:

As a matter of fact, health practitioners may not be aware of the education level of their patients that ultimately influences the health results. The objective of this preliminary study is to describe the perceptions and knowledge of the nurses regarding the literacy level of the patients, their practices, and systems of health. The researched, descriptive and web-based analysis was used to investigate the degree of understanding of the health education among the nurse practitioners. The nurses who were registered by the State of California were selected without any order and invited to participate in the study aimed at establishing health literacy among the patients.

Analysis conducted involved qualitative statistics explaining the sum knowledge of the nurses regarding the objective. The descriptive textual analysis was based on the response of the participants about a survey question that emphasized on the general understanding of health literacy. The findings of this study asserted that the professional knowledge of the nurses pertaining health education and how it impacts the lives of the patient is minimal. Additionally, understanding of health literacy was revealed to be of low significance among the service providers and other front line organizations. Nursing is essential in ensuring a constant direct care of the patients and efficiency in the delivery of the high profiled services. To elevate the level of understanding of health issues among the nurses and even patients, both parties must be adequately educated to meet the required standards of literacy. Finally, health outcome of the patients does not entirely depend on the nurse practitioners but the joint effort. Patients have a duty of understanding their medication so as to question appropriately concerning their progress and expected standard of achievement. It is, therefore, critical to enhance and promote health literacy among the practitioners and patients regardless of their age.Reference
