The article towards practical nuclear pendulum is a physics article that talks of a major discovery that was made in the field of physics. The scientists were able to measure the lifetime of an excited element in the nucleus. This was one big invention as it would aid in the keeping of time better than the existing atomic timekeepers do. In the world today, the best timekeepers are the ones that are atomic in nature since they are precise (Nicholson 17). The atomic time keepers have the ability to calculate specific frequencies of transitions between the different energy levels in an element. However, with the new invention that is to take place, the nuclear clocks can detect slightest analogous in the energy levels of an atomic nucleus thus able to give ore accurate results than the atomic watches. This paper seeks to have a closer review of the article towards practical pendulum and highlight some of the ideas in it.
The article talks of the two scientist that came along with the idea thus providing a breakthrough in the field of science. These two scientist were Benedict Seiferle, Dr. Peter Thirolf, Lars von der Wense (Seiferle et al. 25). The three are students at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universitaet Muenchen (LMU). These physicists proved the functionality of the nuclear clock and thus made history as it was something that was termed to be impossible for a very long time (Seiferle et al. 25). The above mentioned scientists took their time to analyses an unstable element hence came with this idea. They have been reported to have used the element thorium which has an unstable nucleus in order to come up with the finding of the functionality if the nuclear clock (Troyan et al. 250). Another great information about this invention is that it has actually been tested and have been proved to be working hence it only awaits approval for further implementation and its help in the field of physics.
Thumbs up, thanks to this people, the study of elements has now been made easier. This is because the changers in the energy levels of the nucleus of the element can now be determined in a better and more precise way. Their research and all the experiments that they conducted were funded by the European Union and this made the three techs to be more enthusiastic about the characterization of the energy of the nucleus of the thorium element hence they realized that they could estimate the lifetime of the excited state of that element (Seiferle et al. 25). They plan to use this information in the designing of a more advanced laser. Indeed, scientists are working round the clock to prove some things that people thought could only be theoretical as to be practical. A good example is the nuclear clock.
Summarily, towards practical nuclear pendulum is a scientific article that presents a big invention in the field of physics. The article presents the invention of the nuclear clock by the three scientists known as Dr. Peter Thirolf, Lars von der Wense and Benedict Seiferle. The three came up with a clock that was able to measure, in a more accurate way, the analogous changes in the energy levels of the nucleus of elements and use them to determine the frequency of the changes in an excited, unstable element. This invention meant a fundamental improvement in the field of physics as it could give more accurate results than what the atomic clock could do. Indeed, the three scientists did a great work in the invention of the nuclear clock as it would mean better to the individuals that are in the field of physics.
