Therefore as part of my class assignment, I got an opportunity to interview someone one who had an interesting story about interacting with college students. David Williams works with the students at Preston. To my pleasure, he did not need time to prepare for the interview. In addition, David was very receptive and welcoming. He even seemed a little eager to talk to me. He was a pleasant man. The interview started with setting up the environment which included installing of the microphone. We started the interview by introducing myself and getting to know David Williams. This was essential in creating rapport with the personality. We also explored his interests. David said that he liked watching football. His club of choice is Manchester United. According to him, it is the leading team in the premier league. Recently, he visited Manchester city to watch football as Manchester United played against Manchester United. He also confessed that he had to watch a repeat game on television since watching while live, someone cannot see the replays and the analysis and other minor details. The conversation on football was meant to express our interest in the David as an individual.

On being asked about his experience at his workplace, David said that he liked working his job. That may have been the reason why he was approachable. He also looked comfortable at his office. He described the students living at Preston as pleasant. Therefore, it is easy for them to get along with each other and with David. He also said that the student was from different nationalities, backgrounds, and cultures. Interacting with them created a learning experience that was characterized by diversity in ideologies. David`s revelation was far from what I expected. Due to the diversities, I would have thought that it was difficult to get along. David continued by saying that the learning process is mutual as the students also learned about the ways of life of Preston. These experiences were essential for developing an interest in other people's cultures. In addition, as people interacted, they learned how to accommodate and appreciate each other beyond their differences.

However, different people will always have varying habits that may be pleasant and others annoying. For David, the most annoying behavior that he experienced with the students is a failure to maintain hygiene. In his opinion, this was attributed to the young age of students. In addition, some were learning to depend on themselves for the first time being away from home. Naturally, due to differences in upbringing, some people are more responsible for others in cleaning after their mess. David said that the situation was understandable but eventually, the students had to learn to keep the premises clean especially the kitchen area and their rooms.

Conclusion

Our interview with David Williams was very informative. As we practiced journalism skills, we also gathered more insight about living at Preston. David was very responsive to our interview hence it was easy to gather information. He was also clear in his speech, hence the ease of replicating the interview session on paper. From the experience, I gained confidence and experience in interviewing skills as well as journalism as a whole.
