Every human being uses their frontal lobe daily. The frontal lobe is the part of the brain that regulates and mediates intellectual functions. It is the part responsible for the decision a person makes from the color of clothes to the type of food to take (Stuss et. al, 2002). Moreover, it is the part that allows for higher level reasoning such as planning, and a person's personality is also formed. Therefore, the frontal lobe is a critical section that can easily be affected by the environment a person is in and the activities that one undertakes.

The frontal lobe is important for body movement, problem-solving and social interaction. The prefrontal cortex found in the frontal lobe can access information stored in the brain which includes memories which aid in communication and enable a person to interact appropriately in social events. The behavior of a person such as empathy which allows one understand others thus ensure a proper interaction such as laughing at jokes and response to questions is as a result of the frontal lobes. Damage to the frontal lobe can affect the way a person relates to others such as rudeness and anger towards others (Alvarez et. al, 2006). Voluntary movements such as walking, dancing, and other conscious movements are as a result of voluntary muscles controlled by the frontal lobe. Activities in these lobes allow people to make judgments and take action, solve problems, and manage the environment. One may have intelligence, but without a fully functional frontal lobe, he/she may not put it into use.

The activities a person decides to indulge in may have adverse effects on the functionality of the frontal lobes. For instance, drug abuse which involve continuous usage of substances despite their negative consequences such as loss of control of one's behavior. Frontal cortical areas of the brain are responsible for behavioral control via executive functions which consist of inhibition of impulse responses, motivation, critical thinking, planning and paying attention to tasks. Dysfunctional Impulsivity which makes a human being insensitive to consequences by not paying attention are effects of addiction(Crews et. al, 2009). This means that drug abuse hinder normal functioning of the brain thus affecting the brain in a negative way.

Stress which in most cases is brought about by outside parties can have adverse effects on the brain. Acute stress may contribute to substance abuse as it weakens prefrontal cortex self-control. Intense stress may also accentuate fear as seen in some people in the military who have undergone acute stress. Effects of stress extend to the memory of a person. Stress may inhibit a person's ability to encode or retrieve a memory. This means that the frontal lobes function of accessing and storing information is negatively affected. This could, therefore, be extended to the decisions a person makes and how they relate to different individuals and situations.

Having the wrong diet can affect the brain in a negative manner. One of the examples of the foods that can affect the frontal lobe is beverages with too much caffeine. Caffeine causes short-term alertness, but too much of it stunts creativity, disrupts a person's normal life and impairs performance. Too much sugar stimulates the production of adrenaline hormone which causes brain destruction (Alvarez et. al, 2006). Moreover, high sugar diets reduce learning abilities and can lead to memory loss. Trans-fats which are found in margarine and cake mixes, pizzas and fries when ingested are incorporated in the brain membranes and result in cellular degeneration and diminishes brain performance.

A proper diet, on the other hand, can lead to the efficient working of the brain. Glucose provides fuel for the brain which is constantly working. Essential Fatty Acids acts as the building blocks that play a part in the strengthening of brain synapses which are important for the development of brain tissues and memory functions. Amino acids allow for the quick transmission of information from one nerve to another. Anti-oxidants such as vitamin E and C help in reducing the excess oxygen which causes aging of brain cells. Thus eating a good diet ensures that the frontal lobe works efficiently (Stuss et. al, 2002).

Another way of boosting the performance of the frontal lobe is by exercising regularly, a good example being practicing yoga which aids in managing stress. Practicing yoga enables one pose in uncomfortable positions but stay calm and breath slowly (Crews et. al, 2009). Thus the ability to ensure the mind is calm despite the stressful situation enables a person to avoid stress. In other cases, staying positive and avoiding stress by smiling and staying calm also helps ease the stress on the frontal lobe. This enables a person to focus and make sound decisions and also enhances the memory.

Listening to music activates the frontal lobes of the brain. Since this is the area where intellectual activity and emotions are generated, listening to some types of music can help in some tasks such as cramming. Certain kinds of music are good for meditation which helps in relaxing the brain. Binaural beat music is used in some cases to help people learn faster (Alvarez et. al, 2006). However, the most common effect of music is relieving anxiety and stress as well as bringing calmness.

It is, therefore, important to be careful with the activities one indulges in as they have pronounced effects on the brain and they could be dangerous. The brain is a very important organ of the body which responds to the input a person provides it. There is no life without brain function.
