This paper shall focus on a foraging community as the study item to understand their means of living. Foragers do not depend on the land actively for provision for instance, by farming or domesticating animals, but rather on hunting and gathering of food material (Porter 4069). However, as climate, the changed and civilization continued some communities became farmers and others pastoralist, but some remained foragers.

The above images show the forager and the type of fruits, home, and vegetable they gathered for food from the wild. Those people do not recognize civilization although they had some form of government. They had a chief who was the custodian of the traditions and also acted as the judge for cases that affected the community members. Trespassing their land was a crime, but permission can be granted by the chief for exploration activities but under the company of his trustees.

What I gather and how challenging it was

I was able collect information concerning their way of life and its origin. They live a subsistence life since all they do is for their survival and not associated with any form of economic activity except some barter activities among community members. They intentionally started and controlled forest fires to allow new vegetation to grow and attract animals for hunting. They worked individually and at times in small groups to accomplish a common purpose. The language barrier was a challenge since finding a translator was not easy, as most people have no formal education.

How much it took me, the difficulties and my overall experience

I took me some time before I met the chief to be granted access to traverse their land. They do not allow intruders since they value mutual respect of boundaries with neighboring communities. For this reason, any foreign person has to undergo a rigorous interview to ascertain their intention in the region. The experience was excellent since I had a first-hand chance to learn different culture and how they have evolved throughout time. I was able to realize that they had semi-permanent homes which were better than those inhabited by pastoralists communities. East Africa and Northern America are some of the regions that foragers could be found and have always been there. They are very organized and value family which is the core of the society. Men, women, and children have designated tasks. The experience ignited my desire to want to study other cultures and understand their way of living.

The aspects of my life I would have to change and what other knowledge I would need to make this lifestyle viable

I realized these people eat fresh fruit and vegetables and so were very healthy. They rarely reported cases of illnesses, and if they did, they relied on herbal treatment. They visited healthcare centers for conventional treatment when the case got worse while on traditional medicine. I would change the aspect if eating canned fruits to embrace the eating of fresh fruits. It would be my pleasure to learn their language to enhance my interaction skills with these forage people.
