Introduction
Attention getter: When the topic of the top 1% of America is raised, many people tend to think of the inequalities that are caused by the resources in America. The question is why is politics filled with people from the top 1%?
Reason to listen: The topic mentioned above is to enlighten you about the top 1% of America and why politics is filled with this group.
Thesis Statement: The top 1% is the rich especially politicians who are slowly taking in closely a quarter of the income of the nation. This population, so to note, is gradually taking control of the economy as well as the legislation process.
Credibility Statement: I have been interested to learn and to let others know about the top 1% of America and why politics is filled with people from this group.
Preview of Main Points:
First, I will discuss what the top 1% of America is.
Second, I will discuss why politics is filled with the top 1% America.
Finally, I will discuss the divisions in the levels and talk more of what perpetuate the involvement of the top 1% of America in politics.
Body Main point 1. The top 1% of America is the group of Americans is those people, companies, corporations that are considered to be the highest earners.
They have seen their income rise over the past decade by about 20% and yet those who are in the middle level have experienced a fall in their income.
It is believed that this group is controlling up to 40% of the economy as they continue to grow.
It is a clear indication that the top 1% continue to amass wealth at the expense of others suffering. All the rise in the wealth and growth has just gone to the top 1% (Stiglitz & Doyle, 2011).
The gap between the top 1% is also widening as it is also indicated that nearly 1.4 million households are in this income group.
The ever growing inequality is as a result of the opportunities that continue to diminish.
The opportunities continue to be available for the top 1% Americans (Samurai, 2015). When these opportunities get fewer, it is an indication that the valuable assets are not fully exploited.
Also, it is as a result of those who have the monopoly of power being less mindful of the efficiency of the American economy.
Transition. Now that I have discussed the top 1% of America, I will now delve in the divisions in the levels and discuss more on what perpetuates it.
We live in a society where there is more division along the net worth and thus the wealthy are more reluctant to invest money on issues that would solve the common interests (Samurai, 2015).
The very rich do not need government for support. They instead, purchase whatever they need by themselves.
In light to this, they tend to distant themselves from the middle level and poor causing no empathy in the process.
They also believe that the lower level would bring them down if they got to involve themselves in their troubles.
According to Kathleen (2015), to see how one is in relation to the wealthiest of the wealthy, one needs to use tools like the one created by The New York Times that you can key in your household income (Elkins, 2015).
Once you key in your household income, you can run a comparison across zones of up to 344 in the US.
From this toll you can generate a clear comparison on where you belong as a household. This perpetuates the gap
III. Conclusion
A. Review of Main Point:
I first discussed the top 1% of America
Second, I delved into what causes it.
I finally talked of the divisions and what perpetuates it.
Restate Thesis: The top 1% is the rich who are slowly taking in closely a quarter of the income of the nation. This population, so to note, is gradually taking control of the economy as well as the legislation process.
Closure: In conclusion, the Top 1% of America will continue basking at the helm of affluence while the opportunities will continue to deteriorate unless something fundamental is done about the situation. In summary, the top 1% is gradually taking control of Americas economy. Therefore, there is need to stop unscrupulous affluent people whose selfish interest are deeply rooted in the lowering the taxes rates so that they can continue receiving large income.
