Mr. Mao with his desire to expose the truth may have some good impact to the public. A lot will be exposed and even if we account for the atrocities for the Cultural Revolution, putting to the weighing scale, a lot of negative thoughts will cross in peoples mind when they get to know the things people went through and how they suffered. Just like in media today, it is clear that the most horrifying news and negative ones trend most than things that impact positivity in peoples lives. I think its a high time, that the positive news should trend more than the negative ones. They are more likely to bring hope, encouragement and strength in people.

In my opinion, I actually agree with the officials. Some things are better not revealed. They are safe to the public if they remain unknown to them. My thinking what good will people find in this truth?. Instead, it will impact fear and hatred in them which I deem unnecessary. For one thing, there has never been a full public accounting of the atrocities that took place during that time of Cultural Revolution. If anything, the government has urged the public to try and forget that wild past and get on with their present lives.

The essence of this Cultural Revolution is that the Chinese without direct orders were so cruel to each other. They fought and tortured each other. This a loss of culture, loss of dignity, loss of career, spiritual values, loss of trust in human relations and loss of dignity as people turned against each other. Millions of people were persecuted in the struggles and suffered a wide range of abuses such as imprisonment, public humiliation, and seizure of property. A large number of people were displaced, transferred urban youths to the rural regions. Cultural Revolution has left wounds for which they are yet to heal from and actually get closure.

If there will be no public debate about it, this means this means that the new young people born after the Cultural Revolution, have a little idea of what went on and tend to have a idealized view of it especially since efforts to confront the Cultural Revolution have so long been muted. With Mr. Mao efforts to tell people the truth, I think this will bring more injuries to this people than good. It is believed that by studying the past helps you define the future. But at times, the best way to cope with the past tragedy is to forget about it and move on.

I believe that some of the social vice in todays China, such as lack of trust, moral decline and increased corruption are rooted from this past movement. Any kind of religion and the type of people that were involved in this horrific past will always be deemed as bad as they are described in the eyes of people. Everyone is born different and one would prefer to be looked at as an individual and not as the people who participated in the uncouth activities of the past. For example, since many of terrorism activities were conducted by the Arabs and Muslims, their presence all over the world are normally suspected as potential terrorists. Also many black Americans are easily related to drug traffickers. Many of these people are innocent but the public normally looks at them with guilt eyes. The same with the case of Cultural Revolution, If this scenario was kept from the upcoming generation, then people will move on and actually people will live with no grudges and desire for revenge which is for the betterment of the nation.

In conclusion, the communist party and the government might have announced the Cultural Revolution a disaster, and more or less told the citizens to put it in the past and let it remain in the past and actually move forward and even go ahead and curtail the public events and debates that might remind the public about these atrocities having the concern of its legitimacy in mind, but the best way to look at is as quoted by Jack Dempsey, By forgetting the past and by throwing myself into the interests, I forget to worry. There are pasts that if brought to the open, people will learn something from it and bring out something good from it. But in this case, burying the past brings more good than harm.
