It is not easy to find something that one connects to deeply when the read, watch or see about. However, this is exactly how I feel regarding the UWC movement and mission. After reading about the institution's mission and the lifestyles of the students, I felt that this was the place where I really needed to be, UWC is the place where I need to learn and where I need to share my experiences. I'm living in Iraq which is a very diverse community of different ethnicity and faith.
In my life, I have not had many opportunities but for the few that I have had, I have ensured that I have taken the most out of the opportunities I have come across in my life so far. One is working through different non-governmental organizations. Since there are many humanitarian conditions in the country, working with NGO's was beneficial to me. Volunteer work opened my mind to new ways of thinking, meet inspiring people who informed me about institutions such as UWC, gave me a purpose beyond my own self, gave me opportunities to learn to how to lead teams, manage projects, brainstorm on ideas, and gave me life challenging experiences that made me mature faster.
I have also had the opportunity to attend different international excursions where I have represented Iraq and my culture. Such excursions made me learn about diversity, responsibility, and multiculturalism. I am always looking for opportunities to experience the magic that multiculturalism has and UWC will provide me with that diverse environment. UWC will present a remarkable and golden opportunity and the chance that will help me challenge myself personally and academically. I have fallen in love with UWC and it would provide me with an environment where I would really flourish. Learning and sharing with other UWC students will not only provide me with the tools to prosper in life but also help me create a positive impact in the society.
Currently, I do not feel like I am surrounded with the diversity needed to contribute to a vibrant education not only in the classroom but outside as well. UWC will help me since it has such an environment. The UWC movement has appealed to my dreams and I intend to find solutions to social problems facing society. I have always wanted to expand my knowledge and contribute to the diversity and success of the society, as such, UWC is an impeccable match. I need to learn the different ways through which I may perceive different perspectives, and am confident that I will learn all these at UWC. I no longer want people to see Iraq as a war-torn nation but a nation they remember from an excellent, knowledgeable, and educated ambassador of Iraq representing its culture and traditions, named me. I am confident that after studying at UWC, I will be able to use what I have learned to help myself and the world
