Lesson Plan Details
Lesson Introduction
Starting the lesson would require to get the attention of the students in the classroom. There are various approaches that a teacher could use to ensure that all the student are attentive and responsive. To set the stage, I will involve the students in a question session. An opening statement like "have you ever seen this before?" while holding the sombrero for the students to see.
Also, the students will be given opportunities to give their opinions about the mexican cultures. This will help me to know their undersstanding and have a good starting ground to begin the lessson. Also, i will pass the sombrero hat across the classroom so that the students can get a closer look of how it looks like and identify teh distinct features on it.
Learning Activities
"During": Active engagement in meaning making, explicit instruction, and practice (you should be checking for understanding throughout the lesson)
During the lesson, the students will be engaged in a number of activities which will enable them to be well informed about the topic on Mexican cultures. There will be a projector in class to help in showing and describing the different type of sombrero, their shapes and sizes. The images from the projector will be projected on a white board making it easy for the students to clearly see the sombrero.
The students will be engaged in a drawing session where they will be involved in drawing the sombrero. The teacher will help the students not to miss the essential features of the sombrero. The sombrero coloring by the students will be done at the art center. The teacher will guide the students on how to use different colors to pain the sombrero.
Additionally, the students will be required to discuss among them on the features of the sombrero and how they help the Mexicans in extreme weather conditions.
There will also be a question and answer session where the students will be required to tell about their discussions among the group members concerning the Mexican culture of the sombrero.
Closure
At the end of the lesson, there will be a closing statement that will let the students known that the lesson has come to an end. A statement will be posed to them. For instance, "now we have come to the end of today's lesson. Can we continue tomorrow?" this will capture the attention of the students and their response to the question will be a measure of their satisfaction with the day's lesson.
Before closing the lesson, the students will be asked to say what they have learned about the sombrero in turns.
I will restate the key points by saying them and making the students repeat after me.
Extension: If the lesson was to be extended, I would introduce the students to more activities such as mimicking the Mexicans while wearing the sombrero.
