We are writing this letter to request for a grant from the Alkermes Inspiration Grant. Free Drug Community is a non-profit organization that is dedicated in helping individuals with substance abuse problems. The organization's objective is to enhance and support people in Oklahoma City who are troubled with drug addiction by linking them with available services. So far, the organization is working at a capacity of reaching 300-500 persons every year. The organization is in the US and serves everyone regardless of their social status, race or ethnic group. since the inception of the company, we have conducted research on the prevalence of substance abuse in Oklahoma state and have identified a large population of individuals who are addicted to both soft and hard drugs. The organization would like to initiate a program to help the victims identified to recover from their condition. With the funding from Alkermes Inspiration grant the program will be designed to give the victims a new beginning as they will be trained on how to start their own businesses and also on engaging in activities that will rehabilitate them from drug use.

Oklahoma is ranked the 45th in national behavioral health ranking. Over the past decade, the recommendations from practice standards have suggested that people are suffering because of substance abuse and mental health problems to receive integrated care and treatment. There are institutions offering these support services in Oklahoma where the patients can access both rehabilitation and psychiatric services, yet there are still a few institutions that offer substance abuse rehabilitation services.

Statistics have it that between 700,000 and 950,000 Oklahomans are in dire need of mental health care as well as treatment for drug abuse. There are about 876,000 and 985,000 Oklahomans who are at the risk of substance abuse. However, 60% of adult victims do not get access to professional support and treatment, and 40% of youth victims are also in need of treatment but cannot access (Oklahoma, 2015). These statistics are troubling, but the sad reality is they will remain if no intervention is made to link the victims to professional help.

As a mitigation measure, my organization seeks $75,000 to develop local based LINKS programs that will provide the victims of substance with individual paths for accessing community services for both rehabilitation and psychiatric attention and support. The program will be situated in a variety of locations and will be targeting substance abuse. The key areas of concern will be a connection to specialty and behavioral health centers, rehabilitation programs for substance abuse disorder, inpatient service providers and home-based services. This program aligns with ALKERMES INSPIRATION GRANTS program priority of ensuring access to affordable, timely and high quality services for both mental health and substance abuse victims.

Yours faithfully
