Introduction

Based on the quote, Friar Laurence was advising Romeo not to be hurried in marriage but to look where he was going for he would fall. It means that Romeo was in a hurry to marry Juliet, yet he knew their wedding would stumble and bring even dangerous consequences. During these instances, the Friar warns him to slow down both emotionally and physically and love calmly, although Romeo showed the impatient after the advice. For example, Friar Lawrence tells Romeo that Juliet knows he does not understand what love means, as he promises the support of secret wedding to avoid difficulties in the future (Shakespeare and William 102). Although various factors result in misfortunes that the play shows Romeo and Juliet decisions or action, which finally leads to a severe outcome. Hence, the quote of "slow down to avoid stumble" by Friar Laurence can be applied to the decisions of Romeo and Juliet and tragic ending of the play.

Actions or Decisions of Juliet and Romeo and Tragedy Ending of the Play

The first character that Friar Laurence focused on this quote is Romeo. Friar shows the concern to help him in deciding on marriage, but he was not doing it for the better intention as he knew Romeo had an affair with Rosaline. For instance, from the play, Friar knew Romeo had loved Rosaline, but has forsaken her, so was supposed to eradicate lies in eyes and love within the heart. The statement means that Friar does not understand whether Romeo has genuine love towards Juliet or whether he loves for eternity. However, the Friar is the blame of the tragedy of Romeo for example, when Romeo tells him the plan to marry Juliet, Friar abruptly approves the matrimony when responding by saying Romeo that to slow down since the one that runs swiftly in most cases will falter (Berry and Ralph 140). Thus, his plan or advice is not genuine because he is responsible for the disaster in Romeo's family.

Secondly, another character who falls in the tragedy is Juliet. According to the play, Juliet falls under a disaster after loving so quickly, and her death could be prevented if she could avoid marrying Romeo who was claimed to be having an affair with another woman that is Rosaline. For example, Romeo meets Juliet in her balcony, and before lunchtime, she had agreed to marry her. It means that Juliet was a lady and could delay their marriage to measure the seriousness of Romeo. Hence, the decisions that she made quickly on love affair resulted in severe consequences of even death. Another example, the quote that Friar Laurence tells the Romeo to slow down not stumble also related to the Juliet because if slowed down in her relationship could realize Romeo was also in love with Rosaline which means Juliet could not marry him thus avoiding her death tragedy. Therefore, Juliet was not supposed to make the action of marrying Romeo as quickly as she eventually faltered.

Finally, Friar Lawrence occupies the critical position of Juliet and Romeo as he helps them in the whole play. He takes part in their marriage and provides them with good advises, particularly on the importance of moderation. However, Friar Lawrence portrays the character of politics and scheming, through marrying the plan of Juliet and Romeo to complete the civic strife in Veronica. Friar is responsible for their tragedy because he took part in their marriage program and their death. For instance, Friar was intending to make their marriage admirable but was poorly planned. The tragedy of their death could be prevented if Romeo received the information in time, but Friar Laurence failed to plan how he would fake the death of Juliet (Snyder and Susan 120). Therefore, the quote of Friar Lawrence "to slow down because one who runs swiftly will falter" relates to the ending of the play because if Romeo agreed with Friar to delay his marriage, he could not die. Concerning the theme of love in this quote, love relationship is a crucial part of life which needs more attention rather than the rush because we may make the wrong choices. Also, individuals should be careful with the friends whom they interact and share their secret stories as they would betray them to the extent of suffering the same case, Friar Laurence was responsible for the death of Juliet and Romeo.

Conclusion

To sum up, the quote of Friar Laurence towards Romeo that is to slow down not to stumble has impacts on the decisions or actions of Romeo and Juliet because they resulted in the tragedy of death. For example, Romeo fails to adhere to the Friar's decision not to rush into marriage but to better his relationship first. Also, Juliet agrees to marry Romeo first without taking time to measure his seriousness a situation which results in their death, and if they delayed their relationship, they could perhaps prevent their distress. However, it was ironic that Friar was helping Romeo in marriage decision, but throughout the play, he plays a significant part in their suffering. For example, he desires to make their marriage colorful but plans poorly. Therefore, the quote relates to the real world today because the decision people make, especially in marriage, results in severe consequences if not considered appropriately. Besides, the friends that surround us may either deter or facilitate our progress. Hence people should choose their acquaintances wisely.
