The Great Gatsby is a classic novel written by F. Scott Fitzgerald. Born on September, 24th 1896, Fitzgerald was a great American novelist. His works are symbolic of the Jazz Age. Raised in a middle-class family punctuated with a lot of hardships growing up, Fitzgerald never got a chance to exploit his potential fully. For that reason, he was only able to achieve limited success in his career as an author and is categorized among the Lost Generation. He exhibited great talent in his work, and you could tell he had a passion for the same. His profound love for literature not only made him better but also it made him a favorite author with such significance and brilliance of written work. Other genres he affiliated himself with include, drama, fiction, and long narratives. To say that Fitzgerald was the first talented author in his country would be a lie. However, Fitzgerald was persistent enough to thrive not only locally but also internationally. Some of his great pieces were translated into many languages to increase the market base, but the translation was not always well done. His works included: This Side of Paradise, The Beautiful and Damned, The Great Gatsby, and Tender is the Night. The story is told through the eyes of Nick Carraway, who moves to New York from his home city in Minnesota. He settles in Long Island where he rents an apartment while he familiarizes himself with the bond business. His next door neighbor is a man called Jay Gatsby who is incredibly gorgeous but mysterious in a way. He like partying a lot and leads a very extravagant lifestyle. However, through a conversation with Jordan, Nicks girlfriend, Gatsby confesses his love for Daisy. The theme of love is enhanced by Daisy and Gatsby. Daisy is Gatsbys object of all his desires. To Gatsby, Daisy is the perfect woman and spends sleepless nights thinking of her. Gatsby even leads an extravagant lifestyle and parties a lot all in an attempt to impress the lady of her dreams. If one could use one word to describe the world, then that word would be diversity. We live in a diverse world with people from all walks of life. Race, religion, language, ethnicity, beliefs and lifestyle are some of the fields which people differ in. Different people have different preferences when it comes to these areas. When it comes to languages, there are so many languages worldwide, but one is absolutely common and universal. It is understood by everyone regardless of race, social status, religion, age, and even ethnicity; it is the language of love.

A wise man once said, At a touch of love, everyone becomes a poet. Whereas no one has ever fully defined or explained love, everyone pretty much has an idea what it is about. It is for this reason that people prefer expressing it that mere use of words. Some will say love is wanting the best for your partner, whereas some will believe it is sacrificing for your partner to make him/her happy at all costs. Others say love is being there for someone physically, emotionally and financially. Gatsby is so smitten by Daisy although the whole situation is wrong. Daisy is Toms wife and is obligated to be faithful to her husband. Gatsby knows this, but the love he has for Daisy is so high that he cannot hide.

Love is perhaps the most powerful feeling a man can experience. Fitzgerald shows the intensity of love through the helplessness of Gatsby at the sight of Daisy. Gatsby knows that is wrong to covet another mans wife, but the heart wants what it wants. Another attribute of love developed in the novel is that it is insecure. Tom starts becoming anxious about his wife and does not fancy the idea that she could be having an affair with Gatsby. The irony comes in whereby, Tom is also involved in an extramarital affair but cannot stand his wife cheating on him; a classic case of the pot calling the kettle black. The insecurity is so great and overwhelms Tom that it leads him to confront Gatsby in his hotel suite. In an attempt to break the possible relationship that could be brewing, he announced to Daisy that Gatsby was a criminal and his sources of income were not straight. In the end, Daisy kills Gatsbys lover, Myrtle through a car accident and his husband was so upset that he ended up shooting Gatsby and himself.

In conclusion, the novel is about the dangerous effects of love if not controlled. Love is meant to be sweet and pure, but when contaminated, it can bring about the worst fate. The Bible says that hell hath no fury than a woman scorned. The matters of the heart are so delicate to deal with and can lead to extreme events that one might end up regretting. It is for this reason that we must always strive to protect our hearts and those of our loved ones because everything we do flows from it.
