I believe that Oscar Wildes claims that disobedience is a valuable human trait and it promotes social progress is valid because the world is filled with greedy people who can do anything to get what they want. The first two humans were created in God image and were put in the garden of Aden, but God instructed them not to eat the forbidden fruit (Harcourt and Taussig 56). As a result of their disobedience they ate the fruit to be like God and this is the reason why sin is part of our daily life. Humans use disobedience to liberate themselves from injustices. For many Christians the bible is used as a tool to guide them on how to life a righteous life, but still due to disobedience people still sin. Obedient is one of the c fruit of the Holy Spirit and Christian are required to practice it. The world will be a better place to live in if only people become obedient to the set laws or to their faith.
Obedience is a core factor in determining the character and personality of a person because it influences how that individual behaves. Thats why for some human actions such as killing, aborting, and terrorism are happening because since they were young they were not taught to be obey thus, their disobedience trait led them in doing some things (Harcourt and Taussig 89). From experience I have come to realize that molding a childs behavior when young will definitely define his or her trait. For example, most children born by immoral parents tend to adapt the behaviors of their parents. However, some people are born and brought up in proper homes but are still disobedient to what they were taught. Like in the case of Blue who discovers that making up stories can be a pleasure in itself because murder plots and kidnapping schemes for giant ransoms (Auster 143). Thats why social progress is at it worse today because people are not obedience to what the society taught them or thinks it is right. Just as Mr. Blue suggested everything we see or touch in this world has its own colors (Auster 179).
Wilders claim is valid because the world is not a perfect place. For example, in the novel Ghost a young boy is killed and Gold tries to find justice for him but to no avail, Blue thinks of what the boy could have goon through under the hands of his killer. Moreover, he realizes that if the boy had lived they would of the same age (Auster 140). Today it is hard to judge a person by looking at them because use their disobedience trait to convince people. For instance Blue had observed Black for a long time and at some point became close, but Black tries to kill him (Auster 190). People and the world are not what they seem behind their pretty faces they hind a lot thats why White employed Blue to spy on Black. Even when white took the job and started observing Black he finds nothing wrong with him and even question if such a person still exist because he does nothing but sit in his room and writes (Auster 156). However, Black has been hiding his dark life behind that desk as it is revealed at the end of the story.
