Introduction

Technological convergence has led to the ability to access the internet from a variety of mobile services. Statistics show that over five billion people worldwide use mobile phones. This makes smartphone technology use the most popular and rapidly adopted information communication technology in history. This development has had a significant impact on the use of the internet. More people around the world now have access to the broadband internet via smartphones compared to the number of people whom can do so over the desktop computers. PC technology is designed for a larger group of users while smartphone technology design is on the simple idea of availing applications to individual users increasing convenience. Users of smartphone technology have rapidly increasing options in mobile devices and the available mobile services (Nagy, 2017). There has been experienced a rampant technological change from the classical browser-based web options available on desktop computers and laptops and netbooks to the highly competitive mobile application commonly referred to as the "app" market. Some of the most commonly used brands include iPhone, Droid, Blackberry, Huawei and Samsung among others. This report discusses I-Mobile's i-Style 712 which is a smartphone media technology in Thailand and its impacts on daily life.

I-Mobile Public Company Limited is a smartphone company in Thailand. The company was founded in 1995 and has its headquartered situated in Nonthaburi. The smartphones manufactured by the company run on the Android operating system. The company has 9.2% of mobile smartphone technology market share in the country. The smartphone company is expanding its market overseas to countries such as Myanmar, Indonesia, Cambodia, Malaysia, India, Sri Lanka, Hong Kong, and Bangladesh. The i-Style 712 brand runs on android 6.0 marshmallow, RAM of 1GB 533 MHz, battery 200mAh, and weighs 150 g. The smartphone is also GPS enabled and has Wi-Fi hotspot just to mention a few of its specifications.

The use of smartphone technology for media access has a number of advantages and benefits to the user, first, smartphones provide for instant communication. Compared to the earliest communication devices i.e. telephones and fax machines, smartphones have paved the way to SMS, call, video chat and apps that allow people to communicate instantly to everyone around the globe. Secondly, smartphone technology provides for web surfing. Through the use of smartphones, people have a convenient way to surf the web. Smartphones are integrated with browsers that enable them to reach and access websites anytime and anywhere. Thirdly, productivity apps available at the Google play store and the Apple app store can be used by people to do almost everything (Nath & Mukherjee, 2015). These applications range from, photo and video editing, payment systems, data analysis, personal assistant, online store, ticket bookings etc. Smartphone technology use also comes with its disadvantages. One, the technology is costly. Smartphones and especially those high-end with great specs and features can be expensive. Some applications required to be purchased as well as you need to maintain a data plan which might be expensive. There is also the challenge of infringement of privacy through hacking and virtual viruses. These threats occur especially when you access the internet.

Smartphone technology has had adverse effects on our lives. Through the tech, we can communicate with our friends and family. This has improved our ability to stay close and in touch with those whom we hold dear tour lives. Smartphone technology has also enabled us to improve our businesses (Nath & Mukherjee, 2015). It has changed the manner in which we do business for the better. Through the use of the tech, it is possible to send important file anywhere in the world and instantly. This has not only improved convenience but also resulted in more business and thus higher profits. The graph below shows the statistics on smartphones use in the United States in the period between 2008 and 2014.
