Introduction
From last week's lesson, we talked about the mathematics subject. I will teach the topic of algebraic expressions to the grade nine students. Most teachers are faced with various challenges, especially when it comes to teaching mathematics to students. Most students have developed a negative attitude towards some teachers and the subject itself, and some even took their stand that they can't do mathematics because it's hard for them to understand. Some of the problems can also be caused by the environment where the students are undertaking their studies, for example, a lot of noise, from vehicles can be destructive, and this calls for a peaceful and suitable environment for the students.
I prefer the lesson to be taking place in the morning hours as from 8 a.m to 10 am, that is a period of 2hours. This is the time when students' mind is fresh to understand this subject. Mathematics needs utmost concentration and a clear memory to understand it. As a teacher, I will also need ample time to engage with my students to be able to understand each of them better, their capabilities, strengths, and weaknesses. This will help me to treat each one of them moderately, according to their levels of abilities and understanding of the subject, hence helping them to boost their attitude towards the subject and ensuring success.
Apart from the student's attitude, capabilities, and environment, teaching resources are also significant to be available in plenty. In mathematics lesson, there will be much of group work and discussion; thus, this calls for a more extensive classroom with enough ventilation, and lightings inside. Other necessary resources are; books, whiteboard, calculators, and projector to make the learning process more comfortable. These resources are vital, that if they are inadequate, then the success of teaching and learning may be hindered.
Time and resources allocated by the institution for teaching purposes have not been enough. Every lesson needs ample time for the teacher to interact with the students, to know their problems and their needs but most of the time, the few hours and minutes allocated are mainly used for teaching alone and not having an interactive time with the students. Resources are essential for the success of the education process. Hence I will suggest that the institutions, would rather have plenty than inadequate, therefore more investments should be made to ensure resources are stocked in plenty.
Conclusion
In conclusion, education is the key to living a better life in the current world. Thus it's of great benefit if education will be given much priority than any other things in a country. Environment for learning should be well secured from any destruction, and teaching resources should be provided in plenty, and teachers must be taught well on how to understand and handle every student. With all these taken care of, education will automatically succeed.
