Pros of Technology

There are countless advantages of technologies. The technologies such as social media and smartphones have been beneficial in breaching the mainstay within our lives. Gone are the days when people used to buy the cassettes and the VSH tapes. Innovations such as computers have further replaced the typewriters and the cursive handwriting. The development of tablets, smartphones and social media platforms such as Facebook have therefore enhanced communication and easier storage of information. In fact, through this kind of technologies, the human being has been able to transform the world into a global village whereby they can easily communicate with people across the world within spans of seconds. Other than this benefit of technology, there has been rapid improvement in the transportation sector as a result of numerous technological innovations. The development of driverless cars has transformed the transport industry because of the limited or no human resources needed to operate such cars (MacKenzie & Wajcman, 2009). They have reduced accidents and increased compliance with road safety and regulations. The development of high speed trains and jets have also achieved the same goal. Finally, technological innovations have transformed the healthcare sector (Solway, 2010). We have seen highly complicated machines to conduct delicate medical processes such as surgical operations, radiographic and treatment. Human lives have been saved as a result.

Cons of Technology

While it is evident that technology has brought many benefits, several cons can be noticed. Firstly, the development of social media has destroyed morality among youths. These platforms have been widely used to spread various ideas associated with cyberbullying, hate speech, racist comments, and cybercrimes. In as much as people have benefitted from communication, it has destroyed the relationship that existed among societies. Similarly, the development of complex transport carriers such as the big plane such as the Boeing 737 Max 8 have increased the incidences of aircraft crashes with the recent Ethiopian and Indonesian being significant examples. Moreover, some of the innovations within the healthcare settings have been reported to have severe effects on the life of human beings despite (Tkatchova, 2011). For example, exposure to radiography machines constitutes a significant risks factor for the development of deadly diseases such as cancer. The process of chemotherapy has been reported to cause a lot of pain to the patients subjected to the procedure or treatment.

Suggestions About the Cons

The cons associated with technologies are inevitable. The impacts that emanate as a result of the development of a specific innovation can be either positive or negative. However, the innovations often look at the positive side while the negative side comes as a by the way. For example, the manufacture of smartphones has enhanced greater customization of various functions and features that would otherwise be impossible with the ordinary cell phone. Alongside this innovation, studies have reported increased mental illnesses because of the rays emitted. Additionally, the continued use of smartphone has been associated with sleep deprivations, especially those who excessively use it. It does not, however, means that people should stop using them. The rightful use of these innovations can help reduce the adverse effects that are associated with them.

Conclusion

As discussed, every advantage that comes with technology also brings numerous disadvantages at the same time. Technology has revitalized various sectors such as healthcare, education, transport, and commerce. The lives of people have changed tremendously. However, the brighter side of the technology is vast. In reality, there will always be a darker side to everything. This does not mean the few negative impacts should make us lose them. In my view, the correct use of these innovations can help reduce their adverse effects.
