The boy and his father are refugees in the hill going through teething troubles such as hunger, insecurity; the snow is also proving dare to them. The father of the boy possesses a pistol for their security. I think the stake to this conflict must have been the political difference. There is an Army troop, which must have won the fight, and they, therefore, take profound supervision on the lives that might have survived.

a group of the army also referred to as the evil people are in the country. Their aim is to kill everybody they come across. The road is being owned and used exclusively by the bad guys. While on the road, the boy tells his father that sure enough, they will not be able to meet the right people on that particular road. People are forced to seek refuge in the bush where survival conditions are very harsh. There is also lack of food in the country and the boy with his father eats petite at some point go without food. It is very clear that if they are seen, they will probably be killed. The bearded people eat human beings. The boy with his father is forced to crawl on the snow bobbing up and down with fear just to ensure that they are safe. Just next to the road, they get to a sign that warns death. The boy has in mind that the moment to die has just come and they cannot escape it. He reassures his father of his love to him and once more confirms to his promise that he would never leave him.
