Introduction

Poor countries which are also referred to as low-income nations by the World Bank heavily rely on developed countries for their survival. If there occurs an instance where the developed countries become selfish, the poor countries will be wiped out from the map. For this reason, the United Nations came up with sustainable development goals so as to encourage development and improvement in living standards among the poor countries.

The goals laid down by the united nation scheduled to be achieved by 2030 are seventeen in number. They were built on the principle "leaving no one behind". These goals include; eradicating poverty and hunger, promoting good health, well-being and quality education (Eriksson et al. 2016, p.140). Some of the seventeen goals are taken lightly and assumed by the developing and poor countries. Goal number fourteen which talks about life below water is one goal that has been ignored by such countries.

It is viewed unimportant because its effects are not primarily felt. Even though marine life is a source of one of the three basic needs, the population is not convinced by the importance of its conservation since the percentage of the population that primarily relies on marine life is low (Toukan 2017, p.309).

These goals lead to development which occurs in different ways. These ways are the indicators of attaining sustainable goals. An example is increased job opportunities. Progress is made in attaining these goals. Some of the methods used to enhance progress is having conferences that would convince nations on achieving the goals (Hewitt, Molthan-Hill & Lomax 2018, p.102). Policies need to be made by governments to enforce the achievement of the goals.

I would use the same format as the one used by the United Nations in gauging the degree of importance of the sustainable development goals. This is because the basic needs should be prioritised over other needs.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the sustainable development goals is an important method to attain development. All countries should make sure that all sustainable goals are achieved in order to better the lifestyle of human beings. We should also take all the opportunities necessary to promote the importance of the goals.
