Life, as they say, is a long journey that cannot be learned in a day, a month, a decade or even a century. However, I have learned a lot from your experiences. First and foremost, I have learned about the important role parents play in shaping the future of their children. Your parents brought you up in the best way that they could, creating a loving family environment, teaching you valuable life morals and providing everything they could offer. However, things have changed in this era. Parents are now busy with their jobs living their children to the house helps and teachers. Today, children lack time with their parents, and this has had a negative impact on their growth. In fact, work-life balance has become a major challenge for parents in this era.

I have also learned about the importance of being responsible. Being the eldest in your family, you always helped your mother with the cooking and other chores. Moreover, you spent a significant part of your life on the farm, getting up early in the morning to feed the animals, prepare cheese and water the garden. It is a virtue that has been lost today. The advent of technology has made the current generation indolent. A lot of time is spent on video games and social networking sites like Facebook. The current generation is distracted and finds it difficult to concentrate on house chores and school work. You were passionate about everything around you and delighted in every moment that came your way. I now understand the importance of living one's life positively and to the fullest, as life is not a rehearsal.

However, my biggest lesson from your experience is that of sacrifice. You attended school for about three to four years before taking to the farm to help the family. Moreover, you walked over a long distance to school. Our generation, on the other hand, is dependent and can do little without external help. That is why we are driven to school and back and given pocket money.

I have also learned that courtship is an important part of successful marriage. Partners must know each other before walking down the aisle. You and grandpa grew up in the same village and met in 1963. You then dated for two years before crowning your relationship with a wedding in 1966. We now have online dating where people meet on social media and end up in marriage. However, the only difference is that these marriages do no last as they are built on falsehood and limited understanding of the each other.

You had strong family values and wished for your children to have a happy life in their days to come and live happily ever after. Your job experience was full of dedication, hard work, and determination, only to guarantee a better life for your family. Even when my parents found jobs in other counties, you helped take care of my brother and me. It is not the case with the current generation that prefers life in urban areas. You fed, clothed and advised us about the best values in life. Your life has been an inspiration, and the memories you shared with me will forever be engraved in my heart.
