The company also in 2017, unveiled the construction of a big hatchery expected to produce approximately 2.5 million eggs per week. The company has been in existence for close to 100 years and employs above 1,800 staff.
The scope of operations for Allen Harim Company is majorly the United States. The company has favorable prospects in expanding its operations and product outreach to Africa, Kenya in particular. The country situated in Eastern Africa with a coastline along the Indian Ocean is estimated to have 580,367 square kilometers, where 569,140 being of land (Central Intelligence Agency, 2019).
Kenya had four regimes from when it attained independence in December 1963 up to date. The country has undergone gradual evolution in terms of democracy and governance, after moving on from single-party rule to a multi-party state after the retract of Section 2(A) of the constitution via the Constitutional Amendment Act No. 12 of 1991 (Murunga & Nasong'o, 2007). The current regime is the Jubilee Alliance Party government under President Uhuru Kenyatta, who assumed office for a second term after hotly contested elections in 2017.
Kenya is an economic and commercial hub of East Africa. Foreign currencies are exchanged on an average of 115 Kenya Shillings. The US Dollar is exchanged at 102 Kenya Shillings, The Euro at 115 Kenya Shillings and the British Pound is exchanged at 129 Kenya Shillings. Agriculture remains the main economic activity in the country with at least 75% of the population working within the agricultural sector. A large chunk of agricultural output, going past 75% is contributed by small scale farming. The decline of farm sizes has been attributed to land intensification and changes in population density (Muyanga & Jayne, 2014). The agricultural activities are crop farming, which mainly depends on rainfall as well as livestock keeping mostly by pastoral communities.
The government of Kenya has intensified efforts to open up Kenya's interior from the coast while minimizing difficulties and duration of travel. In a recent deal with the Chinese government, Kenya has constructed a standard gauge railway line which connects the capital Nairobi and the rest of the country to the seaport at Mombasa. This is a landmark project aimed at addressing the infrastructure inadequacies not only for Kenya but also for the East African region at large.
The country also has air transit connection, with its Jomo Kenyatta international airport in Nairobi being the busiest in the east and central Africa. It also has two other airports of international standard, one at the coastal city of Mombasa and the other located in the farthest interior of the country, at the shores of Lake Victoria, the present day Kisumu city.
Kenyan people derive protein mainly from cereals, for example, beans, meat, and eggs. According to a recent report, the domestic market has more demand for eggs than the current supply. As a result, Kenya has had to rely on imports to make up for the shortage in supply. The leading importers of eggs to Kenya are neighboring Uganda and The Republic of South Africa (Andae, 2019). Chicken meat is a preferred delicacy, especially among the urban population.
The current business and investment atmosphere is perfect, as a result of the prevailing peace and stability. Moving on from a turbulent political period in 2017, Kenyans have embraced harmony leading to the blossoming of businesses. The perfect business environment was induced by a handshake between the country's top influential leaders; His Excellency President Uhuru Kenyatta and opposition leader Honorable Raila Odinga. They made a sign of goodwill to bury the political antagonism for the sake of economic prosperity. Kenya, however, is dragged by several challenges, including cases of corruption within the government as well as unusual activities of terror.
