Introduction

Both education and training are aspects of learning, and it is quite challenging to differentiate them. However, there are significant differences in training and education based on their tenacity, history, and approach. From the English Dictionary, training is defined as "teaching a particular skill or type of behavior through regular practice and instruction" while education is termed as "the process of educating or being educated, the theory and practice of teaching" (Gibbs, & Coffey, 2004). Usually, training is undertaken to acquire a specific skill which can be physical for instance carving, plaiting, and knitting or mental such as bookkeeping and advertising.

On the other hand, education is embarked on in the aim of advancing the individual understanding and increasing intelligence. Historically, education was trained through associations where young people would work under the order of builders or bakers to learn their trade. The history of education is based on the medieval university system. It was commonly associated with rich families who would take their young men to school to take courses in theology and philosophy before undertaking any other profession.

Training is conducted through specific courses and textbooks that are usually dogmatic. Independent thinking, as well as revolutionary innovation, is encouraged at a micro level of the training which is done in the form of a course. Training is considered done upon completion of the course. On the other hand, education is an all-time practice and is often conducted through factual books. The apprentice is fortified to reason and writes on what he or she is reading (Ward, 2011). Only answers found in the text are right. Otherwise, other points are open to discussion. In the current school systems, mental training is being passed off as education were some courses that require a specialized skill set and proper training such as programming result to employment rather than self-employment. While education is idea based, training is activity based, and none is better than the other.

Training helps in teaching job-related skills in the workforces to ensure jobs are done competently and effectively. Training can be full-time or part-time depending on the agreement with the employer, and it is based on practical application. Besides, it prepares a person for the present job and learners are expected to take a test at the end of the training program to ensure they have mastered the essential skills. Common types of training include sensitivity training, job rotation, laboratory training, and internship training among others (Boon, 2011). The concept of education is relatively broader unlike the idea of training which is narrow and for that reason; the term of education is longer than the period of training. Training encompasses practical experience concerning specific work while education involves learning the classroom. The aim objective of training is to develop presentation and efficiency of workers while education purposes to improve a sense of thought and decision.

Both education and training require time and energy to accomplish, and they also need knowledgeable instructors or teachers who impart knowledge on the learner. Besides, the two elements require a monetary investment. In education, a lot of theories are learned, and the knowledge on how to apply them in practice is acquired through training. Additionally, education is academic and is necessary to complete an exercise while training is professional or vocational and can be received without basic education. In most cases, both education and training impact positively on the lives of young people. Hence, they should be encouraged to focus on either of the two elements to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in life.

For instance, for cockpit crew members such as pilots and flight engineers to conduct particular duties, they have to undergo thorough training and acquire the necessary skills. The training enables them to perform their job in operating an aircraft while education gives them knowledge especially regarding safety to do their jobs. Therefore, both education and training are significant in their careers. For learners to be trained on how to conduct certain activities, they should be taught specific skills and get time to practice them. Providing learners with enough information will give them the required knowledge to perform their duties properly.

In conclusion, it is evident that the approach towards training and education is changing with time and environment. Usually, employees are expected to go through training if only they have formal education. Furthermore, for every training program that is conducted, there must be education. Employees working in higher levels require education more than the low-level workers. Nonetheless, education is significant among all staffs irrespective of their job levels or grades. Training is considered done upon completion of the course.

On the other hand, education is a lifelong process and is often done through real books. The learner is encouraged to think and write about what he or she is reading. Therefore, employers and organizations should consider both training and education while making decisions regarding work since they are all significant in one way or another. However, there are significant differences in training and education based on their tenacity, history, and approach.
