Diplomacy has a multitude of meanings. There are a plethora of areas where diplomacy is practiced. Examples of these are inclusive of state diplomacy, military diplomacy, economic diplomacy, religious diplomacy, and cultural diplomacy to name a few. In a traditional sense, diplomacy is a regulated undertaking that involves a particular sovereign entity, carrying out its regular activities to other sovereign entities to actualize a variety of objectives. These objectives are usually but not limited to: guarding national and integrity, and develop functional security systems, enhance its first-grade interests or actualize its political goals. However, diplomacy is not a single tool used to reach the objectives mentioned above. Also, diplomatic undertakings are achieved in different methods, but the traditional way of the consular agency is aligned on talks, bargaining, compromise, and agreement. All these tasks are carried out not only with the prospect of keeping cordial relations with other sovereign entities, but also to sway their opinions and behavior or to gain aid from them to achieve their interests. It, therefore, follows that diplomacy is mainly but not solely based on a cordial and tranquil settlement of political matters at the international arena. Despite this fact, diplomacy can also resort to other measures such as threats, force, and pressure, and can also put in place unilateral solutions in kind. Even though diplomacy can take a two-pronged style of operation, it generally looks to encouraging good relationships towards the entity it represents in the same way as extending cooperation between the various organization or states. In general, mutual cordial talks shall be carried out regarding the same level of respect to all members across the board. This facilitates a clear and easy understanding between all parties, therefore making it easier to reach solutions for problems.

It is a broad ideology and includes personal factors, political factors, cultural and historical factors. Despite representation being mostly for courtesy and protocol reasons, they are not the only reasons for its use in diplomacy. Representation is a specific task under diplomacy. In addition to that, diplomacy is geared towards collecting useful data and relaying that information to the government or relevant entities concerned with the data. Formal state diplomacy operates through a web of external connections and outreach activities throughout the globe. In a traditional sense, it works through a set of defined procedures and processes. There are two methods of formal diplomacy, namely: bilateral and multilateral diplomacy. Throughout history, diplomacy has always meant the manner between official sovereign states.

Diplomatic relations between sovereign states started in the 20th century in Europe. These cordial relations were then adopted globally over time. The Congress of Vienna made initial efforts to document diplomatic ties in 1815. Despite this, the meaning of diplomacy was cleared by the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations in 1961 and The Vienna Convention on Consular Affairs in 1963. It further bargains with the receiving state government and ensures the receiving entity achieves all interests by all lawful means and to encourage cordial relations between both states.

The Multilateral diplomatic relations were formulated mostly after World War 2. They mainly stand for a new way of conducting international affairs. Leading this organization concerned with its application is the United organizations. Other large organizations followed suit from the UN. Organizations facilitate keeping peace globally. They not only deal with an order but also global finance, human rights, environment, and health. By the following diplomacy, it dictates that they should ensure all the above are maintained in the right manner.

The objectives of multilateral diplomatic affairs are aligned with the problems faced in the 21st Century. The concerns of the multilateral must be captured in the charters and confines of various institutions and individuals. Its main objective is therefore derived from its traditional framework of diplomacy. It is thus essential to come up with an active responsibility and change the conventional ways into modern methods. Even so, all new protocols have to obey international laws.
