Ideally, the question should college be free is one of the issues that is viewed to be more relevant today as compared to the way it has been in the past. When such a question is raised in different countries, many students, researchers, and different individuals have different opinions and even approaches towards what they think about the issue: Should college be free in America? Many individuals have individuals have passionate opinions towards the matter. Critically, answering this question demands more than just a no or yes answer, it requires a balanced exploration and open minded of serious drawbacks, benefits and different alternative in place. After all both the developing countries, the developed countries and America are at stake. And almost everyone is agreeing that education plays a significant role when it comes to determining the fate of a nation regarding growth and development. With the real knowledge and the proper feeling on those who feel that the current system of vocational training and higher education is in good condition and its working efficiently, however, many students and individuals believe that improvement in one way or other needs to be done. Through the general introduction, the discussion will entirely involve why college education should be free.
In any government and educational system, college affordability is more of top concern, especially when the cost of attending university, trade school or even a college is so high, most students dreams stop, with others not choosing to pursue education. Hence leaving most of the student with no skills and even ill-equipped in finding good jobs. Leave alone even being in the position of achieving the American dream, but the huge cost also exposes the college graduates with debt which can interfere with their abilities to be able to reach even the lifestyle of a middle class.
Historically, the tradition and concept of funding education all began with the founding fathers of America, with John Adams of 1785 writing that the whole population is supposed to take responsibility for them and consider the education of the entire country while bearing the expenses associated with education. Through the past performance of education, it reaches a level when the American population was able to take care, and one could attend college education for free. The act of 1862 which is recognized as the Morrill Act, allowed the land grant college to be built by the state on the federal land so as to allow high education to be available to American in every social sector. The principal objective was to promote the practical and liberal education of industrial classes in different professions and pursuits in life. In the current economic performance today, the cost in place for one to attend college education is relatively expensive hence a lot of students are finding it difficult when it comes to achieving the college education. In spite the efforts by the federal government to continue supplying the financial aid to students who are eligible, not forgetting the Pell Grants (Samuels). Statistically, in the United States of America, through the data collected in 2015, it was recognized that student loan debt rose to up to $ 1.3 trillion which is recorded to be more than thirty-nine percent higher than it was recorded four years earlier
Most researchers and educationalists believe that the whole nation will benefit when a country implement free college system. Through this, it will not only favor just the individual students who are taking advantage of it. Ideally, it is identified that public and private sector will also benefit from this since the current jobs today require advanced technical skills and also knowledge based hence a workforce which is better educated will be able to bring solution and it will be significant in filling the skills gap is slowing down the American growth rate. Additionally, since more individual through education will be able to achieve desired credentials, more individuals will be able to acquire the good paying jobs that typically goes unfilled hence could lead to a billions additional circulation of dollars in the economy. And hence the government will be able to achieve a lot of extra revenue which will finally facilitate the payment of free public education (Samuels). However the issue of why college is supposed to be free is actually not an economic wise alone, it is also a philosophical and a moral one. Every country regardless of social standing is expected to enjoy equal opportunity so as to achieve its potential. This cannot be afforded without affordable access when it comes to delivering quality higher education for everybody, the good will, and collective intelligence.
Through Julie Hirschfield, Tamar and Davis, the article can talk more about President Obama, having the plan of making a proposal to the government college tuition to be free for millions of students. This is a good plan that was capable of bringing expansion to the educational opportunities in America. Through the program, millions of college students were able to achieve some college education for free. The typical situation in America is that students are working hard to in their academic work and are endeavoring to bring out perfect grades, with financing each student becoming difficult (Mitchell). This has left many teachers and students wonder whether the government should fund free college tuition since it will be of great help for the students to work hard and focus on their studies.
More importantly, free college education is supposed to be provided for students for free since it will act as assistance to the students when it comes to concentrating on their studies. Since most students depend on full time and part time jobs to finance their education. It has become hectic on their side since they have to focus on their jobs and studies at the same time. Through this, a lot of time is taken away from the students especially those who are seeking full-time employment. Through free college tuition from the government, students will get a chance to focus much on their studies with a proper timing of not involving the working hours (Cottom). Additionally, the student will experience enough rest and peaceful time of not having to think about going to work and handling school work at the same time. The student wouldnt have to get worried about time and money, providing with enough time to get prepared for classes and not about fulfilling their financial needs.
According to (Calvert), it is demonstrated that Obama was trying to approve the plan. However, students were given the responsibility to maintain a GPA of two points five and even higher so as to make progress that is steady enough towards achieving the final success. The intention to support free college education by Obama was to make sure that most American individuals were given the freedom to be able to contribute by trying new ideas, developing their talents, working hard in making sure that they pursue what they want for their lives, free college is also able to free students from acquiring serious debt that may get them stuck in a job that is low paying (Ehrenberg). Through free college education, we can say it leads to more prosperous and a happier nation as a whole.
One of the primary reasons for making college education free is the equality which is achieved by people and the country as a whole. A state that wants change should consider inequality not only in the distribution of resources but also to the educational sector as a whole, through this economic movement can be achieved since if people can educate themselves for free, more individuals in a country will be in a position of making academic credentials. At this moment college to most population is viewed to be a luxury that most people are not able to afford (Robert). Through this, we realize that inequality can rise hence leading to low options and different educational system. A free educational system can offer education to those who are poor, and through equal chance, the poor in the society will have the opportunity to advance to their educational level.
Additionally, when we talk about college education, we are speaking about how the future of the world will be like. The reason why college needs to be free is that the more individuals in a country are exposed and are provided with a short at the free education, the more the minds will be open and the bigger will be the chance to come up with new ideas, and inventions for improvement purpose. Through this individuals in a country and even a community will have the right and freedom of learning and even pursuing the talents they have. As a country that allows exploitation of talents, different jobs will be created hence resulting in reducing the unemployment rate and ensuring that the society is implementing smart decision making in the community (Davis). On the other hand, the free college education is supposed to be offered to act as a leverage and to bring solutions to the struggling students who have insufficient funds. Without the free college education, students who have been financial inadequate have been surviving on student loans; this has exposed the students to graduate with a serious amount of student loan debt. This has put their lives to a great struggle since through the severe number of debt, their chances of getting married, owning a home, accumulating wealth and even having children are reduced. To reduce such loans, the free college education should be implemented.
Education is recognized to be a major pillar that is supporting the growth of a country; my belief is that students are supposed to be eligible when it comes to receiving free college tuition for different reasons. Technically, the free college education will have a lot of positive impacts on the studies of students and furthermore help them in solving their financial situation. A country that ensures free education and laying foundation when it comes to training technical staffs that will manage the country, it is not right for a country to outsource professional workers like engineers and doctors. Notably, through education, a state can make the investment in the future doctors, leaders and the educators and engineers who will be making the country to be a better place to live (Cottom). If this plan is not implemented, the country will not be going in the in the best direction, especially when many million opportunities is not provided to the striving and outstanding students.
I believe that free education should be provided so as to offer opportunity and support to those students who are underprivileged that are working hard in school but are not financially stable to support their education system to college level. Lacking money should not be a hindrance or even a factor that is stopping bright students from completing their college education. Through free college education, students who are less privileged will live with the strong hope that they will survive to the up to the end. Through this, a number of students would also be motivated to work hard in school so as they can gain acceptance into college (Browne). Technically, an increase will be experienced in the student grades when free college tuition is offered and the motivation to get accepted into colleges. Through substantial increase when it comes to student grades, the entire educational system as a whole will also make commitments to the whole education system so as to come up with college prepared students. Free college tuition is one of the suitable solution and factors to solving the economical situation and will provide assurance to developing devoted students.
