The time I felt successful was when my family and I immigrated to the United States four years ago. The reason why I felt successful was that I never knew I would ever live in America. As a young child, I have always admired life in the US and wanted to know how it feels. Specifically, I wanted to pursue my college education here in the US. I still remember how happy I felt the day we traveled to the country. My family and I come from an average background where we sometimes struggled to make ends meet. I am the first born in a family of two. My younger brother is still in high school, and my mother passed away ten years ago. The quality of college education in my country is not satisfactory. For that reason, my father wanted me to receive a quality education in America. I felt successful for two reasons. First, I would be prosperous in life because of the best education I would receive. Second, I was finally going to live in the United States. Immigrants should believe that the can achieve success in another country.
I still remember the day we moved out of my home country to the US as if it was yesterday. I remember packing my bags and bidding my closest friends goodbye. More so, it was my first time to board a plane. It gave me joy in such a way that I felt my dreams were finally coming true. That day, I felt the highest level of life satisfaction and personal safety. Mainly, I felt optimistic about my life. Most importantly, learning how to speak better English was a critical aspect for my success. I had a good command of English, but I believed that it was not noble enough.
Upon arrival to the United States, my family and I settled in Arizona at a movable house. I must admit that I found it easy to make friends in my neighborhood. The reason is that my father once lived there when he was pursuing his degree. I felt happy because I knew what I came to do in the US. Despite me having a strong connection to my country of origin, I made a commitment to make the US my second home. I began sending application letters to Universities around as my dad looked for a neighborhood high school to enroll my younger brother as he looked for a job himself. For over a month, I had not received an acceptance letter from all the Universities that I sent my applications. My brother had already joined a high school in Arizona, and my father found a job as a security officer. He had savings that he did not want to interfere with until I got an admission.
Over time, I developed a shared understanding and appreciation of what it means to live in America. Just as I began to lose hope, my father came home that evening with an envelope in his hand. I had just received a college admission letter. I cannot begin to explain how I felt that day. I started to envision my life in college and the new people from different lifestyles that I would meet. Finally, I had the satisfaction that my life would be better. In college, I was going to study bachelors in international relations. Even before I joined college, I already knew that I would be one of the successful immigrants in America. For some reason, life became comfortable for me despite rumors that it would be hard for an immigrant.
The experience changed me as a person in a way I came to believe the notion that everything is possible in life. I knew that I would succeed in America, and eventually get a US citizenship. I was more than willing to adapt to the American customs. My perceptions of the society were purely positive. In the society, nothing affects my perceptions to assimilate. I always look forward to achieving success in life. I feel powerful that I am now able to pursue my dreams and make my family and myself proud. Every day, I am grateful to my father who gave me the opportunity to get a college education.
In summary, immigrants should believe that the can achieve success in another country. The day that I felt successful was when my family and I immigrated to America. My primary motivation for success was to find a positive experience in life. I felt happy because I was going to pursue my American dreams. The topic is significant because it provides insights on the satiable desire to succeed. From a personal perspective, success is the process of believing in my potential to prosper in life. It is believable that success is a journey, and each day, we are a step closer to prosperity. Achieving success is a personal victory. By now, I believe that when I am through with college, I will get the best grades and get a job that will make my family proud.
