Wetlands are imperative in the preservation of the wildlife as well as the population of the endangered species of both plants and other living organisms. However, in the case Kakandu National Park, the preservation of different plant species is primary. The wetland is the most productive ecosystem in the world when compared to the coral reefs and the rain forest. The Park lies about 220 kilometers East of Darwin in Australia. Two river systems keep the wetlands of the park wet. The eroded soils from mudflats form substrates for the growth of different plants (water couch, piface, sedges, mosses, spike rush, Algae, aquatic macrophytes, herbs, and forbs). The inland vegetation comprises mainly of grass and sedge communities with freshwater mangrove or paperbark swamps. Some other plants including Lilies and ferns occur in deeper lagoons. The main plant's species which is endangered in the park over time is Utricularia subulata and Dubouzetia Australians is species. These plants if not protected can be extinct in the near future. The wetland area is known to host indigenous communities for several years thus making a link between humanity and nature. The park is co-managed by the traditional owners and the Australian Government and remains highly valued for its nature-based tourism and conservation activities.

Justification of the Criteria Evidence

The park, categorized as a Ramsar site, has a comprehensive set of biodiversity representative of its surroundings. It has different dynamic and plant species which are a clear indication that it is quite suitable to be a conserved area for plant study and research. The combination of the shallow water which is found in wetlands combined with the high level of productivity is quite ideal for the organisms which form the base of the food web and act as a source of food for other living organisms, more so during breeding and migration. It is also a conducive environment since it acts as a habitat for millions of plant species which can be used for various purposes in our daily lives. The park is well protected and there is no point it can suffer from human encroachment, a process which ensures that the plant species are protected all year round for research purposes only.

Description of the Kakadu National Park; Ramsar Wetland

The Park is well protected and ensures that the species of plants which is found in it thrives for the attraction of various individuals and organizations that uses it for the study. However, regardless of the better performance over time, the park normally faces risks which make it a bit hostile for human usage. It provides a habitat for some animal species which can endanger the lives of those who uses it. However, the management team is finding ways of sterilizing them so as to make them less harmful to the visitors. Besides, other risks arise from the growth of weeds and tendrils which make its access to be a bit not easy and passable. In some situations, the park being affected by the natural fire outbreaks which tend to burn a number of tree species in the park. These risks increase the costs of management but give the park its strength and a promise of future existence. Therefore, some of the proactive measures already taken to safeguard the park from the effects of potential risks include the development and implementation of a strategy for the conservation of threatened species, identification of other significant species, conducting survey and monitoring programs for critical species and continued mapping of the park.

Conclusion

The park is thus suitable for the preservation of various plant species which includes the water couch, piface, sedges, mosses, spike rush, Algae, aquatic macrophytes, herbs and forbs hence protect them from being exposed to both environmental and human risks. The fact that the park can host a large number of plant diversity and protect the endangered makes it be the most preferred region for the project.
