Providing our children with multicultural or diverse experiences is the most difficult task, which influences parents to call upon the early childhood providers to perform such tasks. As from the beginning young children have been brought up by their communities, clans, extended families, and their families. Even today most of the early childhood programs and many family child care homes tend to be quite similar and fairly homogeneous to the home background of the child. Due to that reason, parents have been influenced to the extent of using the criterion of choosing the early childhood and child care programs as they have providers who speak the language and have the religion that is similar to those of the parents. And also those vendor programs are always matching with the parents view of discipline and education. In such terms, the program of neighborhood public schools, religious programs, Head Start, and child care are all regarded as a reflection of traditional homogeneous communities regarding socioeconomic, language, race/ethnicity, and religion. However, the American parents had much expectation on these traditional programs to provide their children with experiences of offering opportunities to teach them to accept differences, be respectful, tolerant, and learn outside their groups. In that case, the inappropriate developmentally approaches that are being used are the one that made the tasks to be more challenging. Such inappropriate developmentally approaches include the discussions of inequality, past injustices, oppression, bias, and power. Therefore this topic will entirely cover the diversity in Early Childhood Education.
In that regard, diversity is an ongoing approach to working with colleagues, families, parents, and children every day. Meaning that children under this program must discover that there is a variety of techniques of answering questions, completing a task or solving a problem. Learn that intolerance, and harassment is not acceptable. Also, learn how to seek out differences, appreciate, and enjoy. Be continuously exposed to actual experiences, materials, and activities that will enable them to kill stereotyping character. See their communities, families, and themselves being represented throughout the center. Learn about other peoples different backgrounds and know even their personal background more. In such terms, Preoperational make the children learn through a concrete experience. Therefore, children need to learn about themselves by visiting their colleagues in the community, having center role models, and being exposed to people. And that is the only way that can make children know and understand themselves more. Also, the children need to learn concrete, and direct experiences and be comfortable with different people such as people in the community, teachers, and children in their program.
Therefore, it is an urge for the American providers to ensure that their homogeneous programs of one language, ability, religion, ethnicity, and race have a system of exposing their children to different people for them to learn. And this is mostly needed for all children without any isolation or discrimination in that matter, by saying it is only required for the kids of the white, middle-class people. On the other hand, according to Francis Wardles argument, it is entirely right because as parents it is their duty to ensure that their children are well exposed to learn for them to be perfect and confident. In that regard, children will learn and understand more about themselves, and other people. In that connection that is the only way to avoid the case of confusion as the one of an African American child who was told later on that his father was a black man and she did not believe it.
Therefore, to develop childrens sense of belonging they must see their communities, families, and themselves being represented in the workbook illustrations, photographs, environmental being printed in their languages, cooking utensils, dolls, family sets, in school artwork, posters, and books. In that regard, supporting diversity in the programs of early childhood is a two-pronged process as it assists children in bringing exposure to them. Like having an experience which exceeds their next lives, on strange things, and differences. Also, diversity helps them to feel good about their communities, families, and themselves.
