WE THE PEOPLE of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.
We the people is a preamble used by the United States in its political journey from way back. It has a meaning that only the people understand and interpret. Perhaps understanding the meaning will be important in interpreting it. The phrase is used to carry the strong connection between the citizens and the constitution of the United States. It has been used for over decades, and the people deeply understand and uphold the value associated with it. It is used to appreciate the fact that the constitution is formed by people. Therefore the preamble is of the people, by the people and for the people of united states
A phrase would not be formed if it had no importance to the government. Therefore it is important to state the importance of the phrase; the affirmation that is for the people by the people for the people is of great essence to the people. This is because it is believed that Constitution is important as it unites the people towards upholding the values of the state. When people feel attached to the constitution, it is an achievement to the government because there will be harmony and peace for the people who are the major contributor towards forming and amending a constitution.
When declaring independence, the preamble is considered to bear a great strength as it has been used as a beginning phrase. Independence declaration was put in writing basing on people and not the government or any individual. People are considered significant in the phrase, and hence they are acknowledged by these words. In any state, it is evident that a government is not formed without the presence of people. Therefore it is because of people that there exists power. The people are responsible for giving power to the state. The reason as to why the preamble is significant is because it appreciates the importance of peoples effort towards forming a government. The emphasis is on the fact that the power bestowed upon the government with the mandate from the Constitution, does not come from God but from we the people.
The phrase is also important because it enhances understanding of the constitution, in the sense that there is a relationship between the constitution and the people, therefore to understand some parts of this constitution, the preamble of we the people is used. The government is deemed to have power over people, in this case, it means that government cannot accomplish anything will ill motive without the presence of people who gave power. There is no role a government would play without involving the people towards stipulating the regulation and laws that will bind all the people together with the government.
We the people is often quoted in the constitution; this, therefore, implies that it bears strength to the whole constitution since it is a document intended for the people of the United States. Therefore it is important to understand the constitution in the context of the people. This is important for the government because it enhances understanding of each article in the constitution as it bears important meaning to the people.
It is also important to know the people referred to in the preamble, whereby it involves all the people of the United States, despite the race and gender. When forming a constitution, every citizen participates because it is a government document that will guide the people towards being part of the government. However, this does not apply to non-citizens, and in this case, those who were not born in America but stay in America and they have not been granted citizenship. To become a citizen of any country one should be born in the same country or must have been granted citizenship. Therefore we the people are all the citizens that have contributed towards building America to become a better nation.
We the people then and now
Down the history of the United States, it is important to understand that the Constitution is subject to change over time. Looking at the preamble in the year 1787 we are informed that the phrase included the rights of women, slaves, immigrants social groups and indigenous people. With the changes that have taken place in the twenty-first century, it is evident that the constitution has changed as well. The reason for these changes is because people have the power and capacity to change something that is significant to their rights. Slavery no longer exist therefore there is no constitution governing their rights, women are empowered, and they also have rights equal to those of men. Therefore revolutionary changes have impacted on the constitution.
In todays generation, United States has been populated by people from different countries; there are many immigrants in the nation. The reign of Barrack Obama reflected the majority African American and the power of immigrants to the nation. Therefore the constitution has changed over the time so as to accommodate the rising number of people. Also, there is decreasing rate of attachment to the preamble as it is weakening every year. Factors contributing to changes are; changes in government where people exercise their right to vote their preferred leader, this has resulted in the election of leaders with different opinions regarding the right of people. There is the revolution with people embracing new ideas and deeper understanding of a constitution. This is where after forming the constitution, citizens are free to read and understand the Constitution fully. Before amending the constitution, a draft is prepared, and people get to read it before voting on whether to amend or to make changes. This, therefore, has resulted in changes as per the wish of people. Women empowerment has also seen changes in the constitution; this is because women have been empowered to participate in forming the government through engaging in politics. Also, the number of people elected to represent the voices of American citizens have the power to amend part of the constitution that do not meet the values of the

Having an insight on the importance of the phrase to the people of States, is, therefore, evident that it was inclusive because it depends on the effort of people to make changes. It also acknowledges the fact that citizens are important in forming a government. Therefore we the people is a strong phrase that will continue to bring together people even when there are changes in the government structure, for example, the democratic and republican type of government.
