Through what she watches on television, she finds a way to gain knowledge that is associated with the feminine attributes, through having time to watch romantic television soaps and shows and even ends up dreaming of life as if she is existing and living the vision of television which she was watching religiously. In this case, conflict of reality and perception takes place with Cleofilas in real life experiences abusive relationship and falls a victim of domestic violence which is quite different from what she perceive in the television world. This making her live a life of hopelessness, isolation, and denial of a partner who is demonstrating an abusive relationship. With their tradition of a young lady has to marry at a young age which is done, she expected everything would be a bed of roses and imagined how her love life was supposed to be. High conflict of life in reality and life through perception create disturbance since Cleofilas imagined her life as soap she has been watching but later realized that she is facing a life which is full of abuse, poverty, and living with an alcoholism husband. Finally, the man Cleoflias would marry was the only ticket to a new life, considering the bad situation she was leaving under, while she was residing in Mexico she had friends and even family she could have turned to, and once she moved she would not have that anymore, this was a serious conflict.

"Woman Hollering Creek," some of the repeated themes that are being associated with conflict issue include sexual love as an exercise of power, displacement, and alienation. Additional themes include cultural and familial traditions, and in the story, its a sad image demonstrated by some culture that allows abuse relationship, where men have to beat their wives.
