The Johari Window model demonstrates the difference in comprehension of healthcare value between the patient and medical practitioners. This model had also been used in other fields, however, it has not been largely acknowledged in the medical field. It is categorized in four divisions: what is well known to both patient and medical practitioner, what is well known by one party, what is well known to the other and what is not known to the two. An example for medical providers can be the planners and the experts, to the patient, individual and society, both may have the same understanding of gender, education etc. (Berland, 2017).

Because of the difference in understanding Berland, (2017) argue that dialogue regarding health care strategies and controls is very crucial. The main issues to consider therefore is the level of knowledge of the patients, Knowledge of providers, knowledge of the both and lack of information of the two. This help in better communication and decision making. Ells, (2010) advocates for proper communication among health experts, patients and the community at large to improve occurrences and strategy implementation.

A successful team is a key component of successful management. Successful team leaders educate, facilitate and unite group undertakings. The following are ways to effective communication as a leader (WHO, 2012).

  • Regularly introducing oneself to the group.
  • Expressing facts in order to avoid presumptions.
  • Inquire for explanations.
  • Be specific when assigning duty.
  • Clearly state your responsibility.
  • Be impartial in your use of language.
  • For effective communication, Medical providers should apply the following in their practice.
  • Memorize and use people's names.
  • Always get factual information about anything that does not make sense.
  • Be firm.
  • Regularly have a team meeting before and after team activities.
  • Patients need to are treated as a priority.

It is therefore important to note that it takes a lot of understanding to run a successful team and to have knowledge of preserving an effective team, teamwork does not just happen (WHO, 2012).

The excellence and prosperity of healthcare are greatly involved when a plan is produced, communicated and effectively implemented. By starting from the happenings in the current medical world, and focusing on value for patients the study by Ells, (2010) indicated that the main concern that came up was how the health providers can best respond to issues that affect patients.

Conclusion

If health could be bought there would not be any struggles in the health sector. It has been noted that communication between providers and their patients or health providers and the people in the locality is asymmetrical. Despite this what is more important is the quality of what the healthcare facilities provide to make a difference in their daily lives. Some people may not be concerned with the healthcare technology or what the government contributes towards this sector but their main concern is the effectiveness and results. Because of this aspect, effective communication on the above-mentioned categories by Johari window is very essential for good decision making (Berland, 2017).
