Introduction

There are three major telecommunication companies in the United States which include AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint Nextel. These companies have various employee benefits. AT&T is a company which was founded by Alexander Graham in 1983 (AT&T 1). The company has a benefits package which enables their employees to save by guaranteeing them 17 % discounts on phone purchases as well as telecommunication services (Plunkett 27). For an employee to obtain these services, he or she must apply for it. The process of applying and getting these benefits is quite simple. Verizon does not portray the portion of discounts in which every employee is entitled. The method of applying for discounts is not as simple as AT&T; thus, the competitors see this as a weakness and use it for their benefit. On the other hand, Sprint Nextel which was formed in 1898 gives out 25 % discount to all their employees based on the sale of accessories (Plunkett 47). This deal may appear as a better offer for the majority of employees but the company, being a telecommunication firm, sells few accessories.

Upon recruitment, employees of AT&T are accorded health benefits as per their contract agreement, date of employment, and status of an employee among other factors (Rothberg). The employees of AT&T are all eligible to access health benefits upon being enlisted to work for the company. Verizon employees are covered automatically upon being enlisted to work for the company. This aspect puts Verizon on the forefront more than their competitors when it comes to health benefits.

Salaries are the essential benefits packages for the three telecommunication giants. The salary at AT&T for their technical employees ranges from between 67,000 dollars to 113,000 dollars as compared to Sprint where they pay their engineers salaries which range from 53,000 dollars to 95,000 dollars. In the case of Verizon, the company pays their employees' salaries as from 69,000-110,000 dollars per year (Plunkett 67). This makes their average salary to be 90,000 dollars. Regarding salaries, Verizon has the best offer as compared to the other telecommunication firms.

The employee turnover rate is a crucial aspect for every company; the lower the turnover, the higher the retention level for employees. When a company retains their employees, their productivity will increase as a result of keeping experienced staff. AT&T is the only telecommunication company in this case which has a lower employee turnover (AT&T 19). Their employees' benefits, therefore, are much higher as compared to their counterparts as a result of compensation for lower-income payments (payment increments for low salaries). Sprint Company has higher employee turnover. This aspect implies that an employee who does not adjust quickly to the firm's environment risks losing their positions. Thus, it means that there are few benefits because those who do not perform well risk losing their jobs. Verizon utilizes the use of training to solve the issue of low employee turnover. Training improves service quality as well as the productivity of employees.

Conclusion

In conclusion, Verizon has better employees' packages. When it comes to cost-benefit factors, Sprint uses Internet Protocol networks to cut the cost incurred through the use of satellite transmission in the distribution of video content. On the other hand, Verizon saves costs by ensuring that their employees undergo training. This would ensure that the recruits would deliver better services (Plunkett 86). The AT&T firm, on the other hand, insists on enlisting experienced staff only to improve efficiency and productivity (AT&T 5). I chose Verizon because it provides benefits its staff and their families while also remaining competitive in the market.
