Our school homecoming just like others before our year was looked forward by many and there were so many volunteers towards the planning of the event. It was decided that as much as people stuck to the traditional spirit of the event, it was more fun to also go out of the norm and incorporate new activities. American football a traditional homecoming activity was a must. The old team matched against the current school team and looked almost ridiculous for the old team but the fun was worth it. The old girl cheer leaders too did not fail to take their place though a few were replaced because they felt like they had added weight and were not confident in their cheering squad attire. Others in spite of their weight struggled through their outfits and the whole experience was fun. It was to be out of the norm. The old team surely was defeated for probably failed practice but they still had a bunch of lessons and team hacks to teach the new team. Hockey was also played by different teams alongside the football players.

Even before the games began, a small formal assembly was formed where speeches were made to students. There was emphasis of following their dream despite the hurdles that came by, including flopped grades. There surely exist no permanent circumstances. Anyone could and can still work towards whatever it is they aspire with the major significant factor being time. Almost every alumnus had an inspirational story for the students as many had achieved quite some success in their areas. Another awareness that was created that day though at the influence of the school administration was of mental health, drugs and substance abuse. Though people drank a lot in the homecoming after party, the students were made aware of the dangers of unchecked depression and drug use. This session was however made short and as interesting with many testimonies of the alumni.

The day would not have ended without a pageant and crowning of Mr. and Miss Homecoming 2012. It was the most informal pageant with finalists chosen according to the confidence exuded in front of the audience and how much one appealed to the crowds in terms of humor and general uniqueness of stage character. The school band and choir matched up together with the alumni and made such beautiful throwback renditions. The different school clubs had the respective alumni members visiting and showcasing the progress they had made since the old class left the school.

There was a grand feast for everyone which was spiced up by an eating competition with the winners being prized with more food. The school had prepared great meals and a grand cake for the homecoming. Barbecues were prepared for the alumni but they later were enough for everyone else in the event. It was a learning moment for the younger students and a fun time for everyone. Later on at night, the alumni met in a common place in town where they had a lot of catching up to do with each other.

Conclusion

The ceremony went smoothly thanks to the extensive planning that was done by all the volunteers in the alumni class, some of who had become teachers in the very school they graduated from six years before. It was quite a day.
