The Existence and Role of Unconscious
The mind can either be conscious or unconscious. The conscious mind is one in which one has the freedom to make a sound decision and use reason to achieve outcomes. A patient inclined to the making conscious decision understands fully the role of unconsciousness. A belief in the existence and the role of conscious is an important aspect in the counseling session. Moreover, person-centered therapy involves a conscious person who can make a decision on his own and strive to attain change. Consciousness allows the client to choose in a rational and conscious way for themselves. However, for an unconscious client, the therapists have to make decisions for the client. This does not happen in patient-centered therapy.
Any Innate Ability or Propensity That Human Being Is Born With
I have the innate ability to come up with new ideas. I am quick to preempt whatever others are about to say. Additionally, I am good at making robotics which I believe they are innate ability since I find that I struggle less to design new robots and to assemble them. In this regard, I can develop completely new gadgets that no other person has ever produced.
The Importance of Exploring Client History (eg Client’s Childhood) In Counseling
Exploring the history of the client during counseling helps the counselor to get a level point where he can offer guidance and the best advice to the client. Moreover, when the client gives the client history, the two establishes a relationship that allows them to progress effectively with the next sessions. Additionally, the counselor gets to understand the previous problems that the client had been experiencing and this helps to get the insight about any impending danger that need to be avoided during the counseling.
Difference Between a Healthy/Functioning Person and Unhealthy/Dysfunctioning Person
A healthy person is conscious and can make sound and rational decisions, however, an unhealthy person may not make rational and conscious decisions. The former is in contact with his deepest and innermost feelings and desires and as a result works towards self-actualization. On the contrary, the latter involves a person who has feelings of depression and anxiety and hence his decision-making process is impaired. In a patient-centered therapy, a healthy person would be the fittest to undergo the therapy.
The Most Important Thing for a Person To Change and Grow
The most important thing for a person to change and started growing is to abandon the previous life and start a new with determination to live a better life. To abandon the previous life, the patient/client must also have the willingness and self-drive to change. During the patient-centered therapy, the counselor gives the guidelines to live better. The willingness to live according to the guidelines given offers the patient the greatest chance to change. The self-drive must come from the patient rather than the counselor. In a patient-centered therapy, the most important thing is the willingness of the patient to change since the counselor does not enforce the change but offers guidelines. Hence, with such intrinsic drive, the change will be achieved effectively.
The person-centered therapy is concerned with leaving the client to make his or her own decision about an issue. During the therapy, the client participates fully and contribute to a greater extent compared to the therapists. In fact, the therapists offer guidance to the client. Based on the description of the belief given in section one, it is evident that the most appropriate therapy is the patient-centered.
