Introduction

Good writing ability is a prelude to a clear understanding of one's thoughts, ideas, and explanation. In nursing, writing is widely used to express a person's views and opinions regarding pertinent issues that directly impact the field and profession. I have a writing process that guides me, particularly when explaining in a tricky piece or concept. Predominantly, my writing process is iterative and takes place through five distinct phases, which include prewriting, drafting, writing, revision, and editing.

Prewriting is the first phase of my writing process, and it entails the gathering of pieces of information that will be instrumental in my final presentation of ideas. This is an important phase since it acts as my foundation in ensuring that I deliver a well-written and thoughtful masterpiece. Quintessentially, this phase encompasses brainstorming, note-taking, outlining, and information gathering through interviews and library research among others (Whiteman, 2013). Imperatively, under library research, I usually look for books and journal articles that are less than five years old as they contain the most relevant information. It is worthy to note that idea generation does not only occur in this step of the writing process but also throughout the entire process. The second step in my writing process is drafting in which I put my ideas into sentences. Noteworthy, under this step, I concentrate on supporting and explaining my ideas such that they are understood easily. It is imperative to elucidate that as I connect and explain my ideas, I develop additional views which help me to strengthen my points or topic. Additionally, I usually make this phase writer-centered to help me gauge what I know and what I need to do to improve my writing. This implies that I do not pay much attention to spelling in this writing phase.

The third and the main step in this process is the actual writing. This phase involves putting down my ideas in paragraphs and sentences. In this phase, I think about my readers' expectations and needs by making this step a reader-centered. Moreover, this phase enables me to ensure that my ideas are logically explained such that readers have a clear glimpse of my topic. It is essential to highlight that this stage entails organizing my thoughts from the fundamental knowledge to advance ideas. The fourth step is revision, and it involves refining my proses and making each sentence accurate and concise for explicit ideas. Finally, I do editing as the last step in my writing process. Under this phase, I check for mechanics, spelling, and grammar mistakes and connect them appropriately (Cargill & O'Connor, 2013). It is important to note that I read the whole writing as if I were a reader to help me identify areas that need improvement as well as those that need to be avoided. By so doing, I believe that my writing is logical, concise, and easily understood.

Conclusion

In general, my writing process takes place in five phases with each step being an improvement of the previous one. The most time consuming and intensive phase is the prewriting step since it helps me to generate ideas that are crucial in expressing my thoughts and views. During this phase, I do lots of activities like brainstorming, outlining, interviews, and research from books, articles, and other relevant sources. These prewriting activities are a prelude to my prowess in articulating my points and topic.
