Introduction
Many people don't reach the positions they ought to be in since their background hinders them. However, from the work of Gabriel Garcia Marquez, the environment that one comes from shouldn't kill a person's visions. Gabriel was an inferior man. Despite the condition, he transcribed a novel, One Hundred Years of Solitude, published in 1967 (Gale, 2018). The book illustrated a story on Buendias' household and the City of Macondo. This book emerged to be accessible as it moved many people. The popularity was reflected from the different awards Gabriel won, and the climax of it all, he acquired the 1982 Nobel Prize in Literature.
During this period, there were authors such as William Kennedy, James Joyce, and others. Gabriel emerged as unique of these writers due to the One Hundred Years of Solitude assisted in spreading the literary genre, especially among Latin American authors (Garcia & Fuentes 2019). His style of relating the One Hundred Years of Solitude with the Bible familiarized his work. This made him appear relevant.
Gabriel's' Geographical background affected his work since he was restricted from entering the United States since he tied to the Communist Party in Columbia in 1950s (Garcia, 2019). This happened despite his frequent invitation to Book Festivals as well as Universities in the US. He was denied a visa, and this was a challenge to him. Cultural factors also affected Gabriel. The real bananas company was against the One Hundred Years; since it supported autocracy and ferocity. His race also inhibited him from attending the many invitations he had received in America.
Gabriel was a member of the communist group. He was driven by the passion for writing about the isolation of the imaginary Macondo and emotive segregation of characters. James Joyce influenced him. He also got a lot of support from Bill Clinton. Gabriel was also a self-motivated person since he didn't lose hope despite the challenges he went through.
In my view, the success of Gabriel has a lot of significance. Despite the challenges and the background he came from, Gabriel made a lot of achievements which qualified him for the Nobel Price Award in literature. The accomplishments of Gabriel clearly show that one's background shouldn't be a hindrance toward success. Therefore, the success of a person is not defined by the environment he or she is from, but the passion, handwork, and sacrifices the person will make.
