The summer sessions of Georgetown began in 1954. They were started by Rev. James F, after his appointment as the director, to manage summer programs for the university. During the beginning, it offered causes from fifteen departments which included religion, political science, and modern languages. In 1970, the board of directors changed the name of the school to the school for summer and continuing education, and it holds that name until now. The program is offered at Georgetown University, in Washington DC. The current paper will discuss why I want to attend the summer program at Georgetown.

One of the reasons why I want to attend the summer program at Georgetown is because it offers high school students a chance to explore their courses. Additionally, the program offers an academic challenge to high school students. The program allows students to immerse themselves in the delight of university life, as they pursue their interests, acquire a head start on college, and meet new people.

Summer in Georgetown is like going to college. A student can live on the campus, manage their schedule, absorb the good culture of Washington, make new friends and also get a good understanding of college life. Through the experience, I will excel through the rest of my high school life, and my transition into college. The university also gives me a chance to attend classes alongside the undergraduate students of the university, and this will provide me with a taste of college life. As a student enrolled in the summer college program, I will have a chance of enrolling in an undergraduate class and finally earn up to a maximum of six college credits in the course.

The summer program at Georgetown has offerings that have grown significantly since the time it started until now. They have maintained their initial commitment to hiring qualified instructors, thus providing the best experience for participants. Currently, they offer a diversity of creative camps together with academic camps. Moreover, a survey has indicated that most of the parents prefer taking their kids to this particular camp as compared to other summer programs. It has also been noted that every summer, there is an increase in the number of kids who attend the program. Parents whose children had previously participated in the summer program at Georgetown often recommend other parents to take their kids there. With the above characteristics, I feel that I should attend the Georgetown summer program.

The other reason that makes me want to attend Georgetown summer program is that students who have attended summer programs at Georgetown have been found to improve their grades when they get back to school in the fall. Georgetown summer program also helps in the improvement of students' self-confidence through involving them in interactive programs with others.

To make their programs more effective, Georgetown programs focuses on single subjects. They do not combine subjects, and hence they create a learning environment known as the immersion style. Research indicates that by using the immersion style of learning, students learn more efficiently and quickly. Students who use this style of learning retain most of what they are taught, and additionally get more fun and enjoyment out of the learning process.

Immersion allows students to concentrate and stay on task, as they do not waste time shifting to different classes. They thus use the available class time more efficiently. Furthermore, immersion gives teachers the time to attend to all students' educational issues and keeping the students engaged.
