The vice-chancellor, deputy vice-chancellor, guests, ladies, gentlemen, and the most esteemed graduates. It is a privilege to be in this gathering today to celebrate your achievements and the fruits of your zeal, success, commitment and perseverance that has brought about your progress. I want to congratulate each one of you for accomplishing your goals and completing your studies. Not only have you made your families proud but also you have made a significant impact into society by signifying that education is an essential tool for change and empowerment.
This is an extraordinary occasion that has been practiced from generation to generation since the introduction of education which can be traced back to medieval times. Graduation provides you with an excellent opportunity to identify yourselves as great individuals with high potentials. This is because you can reflect on your small beginnings from the simple steps you took since you enrolled in kindergarten and went through each level successfully. Today you are enabled to see your progress from the past to the present and the future which reflects brightness and great opportunities. This is a dream come true today!
In this particular day, I am a happy elite who recognizes the efforts of women in the society as they are not left behind by men, as they have opened, expanded and exploited every chance they have, to access education against all the odds. The number of women graduating over the past years is significantly increasing just like the men. This signifies that in our societies today, education is valued by both men and women and it is not gender-centered as it used to be in the past.
I trace back my roots to my graduation ceremony when deep thoughts kept on crossing my mind of what the future had for me. I did not know what awaited me in the outside world away from books and Chicago University. But I was confident that I was not to fail in life as I had walked through a difficult and long journey to think hard about the negative side of life finally. Through my positivism, I did not wait to be employed to make a living, but I self-employed myself and later on in life greater opportunities knocked at my doorstep.
Today, we recognize you as our alumni, and You get the privilege of being respected by the members of the society as valuable people with excellent skills, goals and capable of bringing change as well as lead, enlighten and benefit them towards providing solutions to the challenges facing them. Some of you will take different paths from what you studied for while others will continue with their ways, but most importantly do not give up!
Time flies fast and waits for no man, it is essential that you use it wisely and as a critical resource that is limited, to impact yourselves and bring beneficial change into your lives. Never forget the great journey that you have come from, all along with the lessons it has taught you. Lead by examples because you are qualified to show outstanding skills in your career. I am proud of you all and would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a successful life that is full of God's blessings.
