Introduction

All processes starting with topic selection involved intensive brainstorming. All group members contributed topics related to our subject, and we evaluated them to select the most appropriate and one that all members were comfortable with. I liked how each of us presented a topic on our first meeting. Some suggested topics were not related to social media, and we had to do away with them in a polite manner. For instance, there was a proposal that we do a TV advert. Considering that it was off the span of the needed topic, we did away with it and settled on a more precise topic that all members would relate with and adhere to the assignment instructions. That experience made me reflect on the importance of group work since I stood to think that if that assignment were to be completed on a personal level, some of the group members would present off-topic advertisements.

Once we settled on a topic, the ideas on the advertisement were generated in a free discussion. All group members contributed ideas as one of us jotted them down. We selected a subject that all members would relate to. Our topic of Facebook explored one of the most common sites among people in the modern world. As a result, the members were well versed with the concept allowing guided discussions that were rich in knowledge. Once we noted all ideas, we deliberated on how to present them chronologically and appealingly to capture our audience's attention and at the same time enlighten them about our topic.

The assignment was a good experience. It led to the nurturing of teamwork as we all worked towards achieving a common goal. I believe that teamwork skills are essential in the future since they enable faster accomplishment of tasks and development of interpersonal skills. The discussions allowed us to explore a vast amount of research and assess it via our critical thinking skills to finally present a masterpiece project. The experience allowed me to utilize my communication skills as I explained my stances and various points regarding our subject matter. The developed interpersonal skills led to a kind of relationship founded on respect for one another.

The group work experience allowed members to showcase their strengths. A common perception in society is that human beings are abled differently. The experience allowed me to appreciate the diversity of our thinking and created an opportunity to learn from one another. It also allowed the weaker members to learn from the rest and gain informed ways of approaching such projects in the future. Therefore, working in groups accounts for the weak partners and enhances the overall efficiency of task accomplishment. The experience also broke the monotony of a lecture room setting allowing free expression and development of personal confidence.

Conclusion

I would have improved the experience by teaching teamwork skills and emphasizing its importance. Working as a group requires some training on how to communicate and manage time to prevent wastage and deviation from the topic. I would also organize for teambuilding activities to get members to understand one another and become more cohesive in their group. Teambuilding activities would allow group members to understand one another at a personal level and gain insight into the life experiences of one another. Such discussions would enhance trust among group members and reduce chances of fallouts emanating from bad behaviour and lack of cooperation. Group work could also be improved by setting aside roles for each group member and providing a peer assessment mechanism to evaluate the contribution of each member.
