Introduction
All healthcare workers utilize a clinical judgment to make decisions as they offer care to patients. These decisions have effects on the actions of the health worker and the delivery of health care the patient access. Clinical judgments are responsibility of health worker to make decision-based on either medical or nursing practice problem. Therefore, this essay discusses the difference between the two types of problem that can be used to make a clinical judgment in a healthcare setting.
A nursing practice problem handles issues that cover human reaction and actual or impending health problems and life processes which affect an individual and community at large. A nursing practice problem view at the problem with clinical judgment concerning an individual patient, a family, or a community and how they react to specific or impending health problems, which they are uncovered (Hall, 2005). Thus, a nursing practice problem gives nurses a ground from which they choose suitable nursing measures to realize a certain health outcome and for which a nurse is responsible. Such problems entail consumption, severe pain, risk injury, and, self-care deficit among others. For instance, in the complimentary nurse practice problem of impaired verbal communication, disturbed family processes, the risk of falls, and, weakness gives a general and more holistic comprehension of the impacts of conditions on a certain patient or a family.
Whereas medical problem deals with a disease or medical condition, this implies that medical practice problem concentrates on the dysfunction or defect within a patient, employing a problem-solving model (Talley & O'Connor, 2016). The physical examination, medical history, and diagnostic test offer the ground for the recognition and treatment of a particular illness. The medical practice problem indeed focuses on the physical and biological elements of certain diseases and conditions.
Nursing practice problem emphasizes a holistic approach to diseases taken by nursing that is why PICOT process utilizes it. According Melnyk and Fineout-Overholt (2011), PICOT process focuses on the Evidence Best Practice, hence allows the user to approach different nursing research problems with the benefits of evidence-based practice. Evidence Best Practice is crucial to enable all health workers to give to most current practices for their patients.
Clinical judgment implies making a decision concerning patient's needs, concerns, health problems, employ modified standard approaches, and, enhanced standard approaches. To achieve that health workers need to utilize nursing practice problems since it assumes a holistic approach.
