Introduction

"There is no shortcut in achieving effective communication; instead it requires intense practice and thought to achieve it well." This is one of the famous quotes that is synonymous with my principal. My principal at Smith Middle School is Mrs. Hayes; she has different experience both as a leader and teacher. Since she assumed her position as the principal, Mrs. Hayes has made some notable transformation in the running of the school, and I can attest that Smith Middle School is growing with brilliance and competitiveness; and for this reasons, I became curious to interviewing her and hear from the horse's mouth.

We started the interview by reflecting on her vision of a successful middle school; Mrs. Hayes stated that she desires to have empowered teachers, parents, and students who will collaborate in ensuring that the school programs go as planned. Also, her vision is to ensure that the parents and the teachers collaborate in maintaining discipline, academic performance and career development among the students.

Along the interview, Mrs. Hayes highlighted ways she deals with the challenges and how she arrives at a conclusion. She began by saying that, there are different forms of challenges, the recurring ones and the new ones. She noted that the recurring challenges would be handled by brainstorming with other principals from other schools who have experienced the same challenges and give suggestions on how they dealt with them. Moreover, for the new form of challenges, will be dealt with by including the suggestions of the involved groups and compare them to arrive at one effective solution that perfectly is implemented.

The central leadership skills as presented by Mrs. Hayes include transformational leadership, democratic leadership, and strategic leadership. In the interview, Mrs. Hayes states that her leadership skills guide her to bring change in the school and make it a better place for the students to gain education. Mrs. Hayes believse that she is democratic since she accommodates suggestion from different parties when formulating solutions to the problems and making improvements; then, she is strategist in implementing the policies that will promote the smooth running of the school.

Mrs. Hayes stated that the primary challenge that she is faced within her position is the ethical and cultural difference among the students, teachers, and parents. She laments that people are nurtured with different community morals, and when they all come to school, they feel odd when they see something unusual being practiced. Some parents criticize that their children were unfairly treated in school since the offense committed by colleagues or administration on grounds of common mistakes that does not need punishment. Moreover, in common cases, ethical and cultural difference leads to bullying among the students. Along the interview, Mrs. Hayes assured that she is working at sensitizing the school community on the need for equality and behave according to the uniform school regulation rather than according to their perceptions.

Our interview ended with the achievements that Mrs. Hayes has made from the time she took the helm of the school principal at Smith Middle School. She noted that she is proud of creating change the attitude and behaviors of the students towards academic and co-curriculum activity, whereby the students show competitive performance in their exams, reduce cheatings and they can develop their hobbies into the curriculum. Also, the students are developing healthy growth by becoming good ambassadors of healthy living by practicing and advising the community on eating healthy foods and participating in the physical exercise to improve body immune system and managing terminal illnesses.

Conclusion

To wind up, interview with Mrs. Hayes was pedagogic. I enjoyed hearing how she can apply her leadership skills to tackle some of the imminent issues that strangle the productivity of the school. It was a privilege to have an interview with her, and though the discussion I learned her path of becoming a great leader and be able to set a regulation that will ensure order and effectiveness in an institution or organization.
