In the story the characters Lucy, Esperanza and Rachael terrible because they were imitating the way Esperanzas aunt was doing. For instance, talking without changing the position of her head because she was blind, lifting the cup of water for them to drink water among and how she could call them to wash the dirty dishes because she could only smell them. In this, the theme of stereotype is portrayed. The girls were imitating her because she was disabled (p. 58).

Throughout the story the theme of disappointment is vivid. Esperanza is disappointed about where is born and she wishes to have more. She wants to have a big house. Esperanza is also disappointed by her aunt sickness, and she starts asking herself if her aunt did something wrong to deserve such sickness or she was picked randomly (p. 59).

In the story, there is also the theme of rejection where Esperanza is rejected by her mother. She says my mother says I was born on an evil day (p. 58). Esperanza continues to say that maybe she deserves the rejection because of the bad things she did when she was younger, for example, mimicking her aunt shriveled limbs.

Esperanza writes that diseases have no eyes (p. 59). This means that sickness does not choose who it will make sick. It just randomly chooses one. Born in an evil day (p. 58) Esperanza was born on a cursed day, and that is why she does bad things

In Esperanzas poem, she read to her aunt its significance comes is demonstrated. The poem is well-written, and it is talking about Esperanzas dreams. The Poem is talking about the way Esperanza does not want to be born in Mango Street but rather in a big house. She wants a big house and has big dreams of the ways things could be if they were different. She does not show any gratitude for what she has at hand, for instance, an aunt who can listen to her poem but rather she express what she want in her life. Esperanzas poem begins with I want to be (p. 60). she does not name what she wants to be, but I know she wants to be free and achieve more than she is. The poem is complete and did not miss anything out.

The writer writes in plain English which everyone can understand. She wants to pursue her writing so that she can achieve freedom from the Mango Street. The tone of the story is disappointment because Esperanza is disappointed about her aunt death and she was the only person who understood her writings I didnt know she had been dying such a long time (p. 61)

In the poem, she says that I want to be like the waves of the sea (p. 60). This means that the writer wants freedom. Her aunt gives her advice, and she compliments her for her work. She then insists that she should continue writing and she will achieve the freedom she yarns. The character is determined since she wants to follow her love of writing to achieve her dreams. (P. 61). The poem leaves me with an ambitious feeling because the author does want to achieve her dreams and attain freedom.
