Introduction
The social systems, the society I general and human nature is generally messed up. The world is way off its central purpose of nurturing and building on the best of the resources available. People are living in accordance with other's thinking. War, diseases, calamities, hatred, tension, and conflicts have dominated the world more than national cohesion, peace, and human progress. People have taken a hard stance on the issue to do with religion, sexual identity, processes, self-development, and social structures as a means of achieving selfish ends than for global progress and development. The resulting situation has hindered collective progress aimed at building social structures and human endeavors. The end result is a society that is not only messed up but also fixated on short terms accomplishments that have little to do with mutual development. The solution is not about scraping the social systems and starting all over again, it is about changing people's mindsets towards collective well-being and common good that will fix the current confusion.
Since the beginning of the 21st century, the world has seen numerous changes in philosophical thinking and classical reasoning in addition to technological advancement. Sorokin (16) argues that people's way of thinking has gradually taken a nose dive prompting numerous questions on where the world is headed considering the many cries and agonies evident in the society. The resulting consequences of the much disorderliness evident in the society are continued deterioration of morals, injustice and poor relationships among people and nations. According to Sorokin (22) such has gradually given rise to tensed relations, poor ethical values, and misguided priorities. Holstein (56) maintains that the policies, philosophies, ideologies, and values guiding the society towards the building mess is resulting from warped thinking.
Ideas can be changed. Priorities can be readjusted and policies can always be reframed for the better. According to Holstein (141) men of wise council can change the world by working out ethical frameworks that can and will guide the society in the right direction and correct the current mess. The present-day mess is no doubt brought about by misguided and selfish policies engineered to serve selfish interests both within political, social, and economic sectors. According to Sorokin (22) with the pioneer of such thinking occupying high places of significance in society, the masses are easily influenced to uphold their thinking and ideologies.
People from all walks of life have adapted to individualistic thinking. Nurturing ideas that only serve personal interests instead of collective interests have dominated the individual's minds. There are no guiding principles in place to show direction, to correct a mess, and uphold collective moral guidelines (Sorokin 24). With the high number of social, political and economic injustice dominating the society, it's only a matter of time before each person is left for themselves to pursue their selfish goals with little regard to the society's well-being.
Mending human behavior is no mean task. Social correction is a practice within all social settings. The success by which a society can mend its failures is very much determined by its moral and ethical direction and pillars upon which it puts its social and collective responsibility. By laying the right foundations and frameworks to correcting personal ills and mistakes, it is possible to change the current mess one step at a time, bit by bit and pieces by pieces. Over the years, children have always taken up what they see and learn from others in society. In order to change the current mess, the starting point should focus on children. Ethical and moral education should form the first lesson of every child. Education should aim at preparing individuals to be pioneers of change within the society by positioning the home as the first school. Parents and education stakeholders should take the role of inculcating the best moral and ethical practices in children.
Some of the most important and relevant social education programs should involve and entail education multiple fields depending on a child's age. They should include fields such as humanities, history, ethical values, and human relations. The bulk of the training given that they are of a young age should focus on morality and human relations. A child born and raised up in a society that upholds ethical values and positive human relations is no doubt positioned to be a pioneer of change and transformation. Change in adults is far more involving than change aimed at realigning a young child's mind. Adults are known to resist change due to their rigid way of thinking and social environment. If the change is aimed at nurturing a new generation with the right mental framework, it is possible to change the current mess and make the world a better place.
A place built on strong ethical and moral pillars, a place in which common good is given priority than individualistic interests, a place in which political, social and business leaders, take deep concern on the well-being of the society as a whole. At the same time, the political and economic system should have in place strong moral guidelines that shape and mold its stakeholders towards the best ethical and moral behaviors. It's no doubt that if the focus is placed on ethical and moral standards targeting the young ones, in addition to building the right frameworks in the societies political, social and economic fields, the current mess in the world can be changed one step at a time.
