The Communication Context and Campaign Goals
The goal of this campaign is to educate people about the mistreatment of the animals that goes on behind the circuses and encouraging them to participate in the welfare circuses. Informing the public on the animal mistreatment will help transform their approach towards the animals and help prevent further mistreatment.
Communication Objectives
The objective of this campaign is to support state legislation to ban the use of wild animals in circuses. As a result, we hope to wild animals in circuses will be allowed to inhabit their natural environment and completely do away with the harm that comes from restricting this animal in circuses such as death, destruction of property, tragic accidents among others.
The Campaign Environment
Circuses such as Universal circus are the cruelest; animals exploited are the most abused and punished. To start with, elephants, tigers, lions, camels, and other animals endure rigorous transport, training, and performances. Also, animals used in circuses are bred and raised in captivity and will spend their entire life with human beings which is the unnatural and stressful environment. Animals such as big cats learn to obey and follow instructions since they are afraid of being whipped. Others are brutally treated, for instance, elephants are frequently beaten with bull hook-heavy batons with a sharp metal hook on one end until they bleed for them to perform some dangerous, uncomfortable tricks such as standing on their head or a small pedestal. When these animals are not performing, they are kept in chains or cages with barely enough space to take a step in any direction. When these animals are being transported around the world from venue to venue, they are cramped into tractor trailers for days. This environment is usually cramped, filthy, sweltering and poor ventilated and as a result they may even die.
Furthermore, the animals become despondent and depressed and sometimes develop behavior patterns including swaying, head bobbing, incessant pacing and sometimes they end up hurting themselves. These animals are also denied the opportunity to enjoy everything that is natural to them such as the opportunity to run, play or socialize. When they become overwhelmed stress end up snapping, this includes going on rampages and causing property damage, human deaths and injuries.
Target Audience
The anticipated audience for this campaign will be the local people; this includes children, young adults, adults and the old and circus managers. This is because they need to understand the brutality that these animals go through and as a team, we can advocate for their ban. For instance, ADI has been campaigning for the ban on the use of wild animals in circuses without success. This is because they have not included every other local person in the understanding the need to ban them. With the minimum exposure they did, they were able to raise about 10,000 signatories that supported the idea, however, I think by talking to these people personally will be of great value.
Creative Rationale Leading to the Idea
A demonstration is necessary to educate people about how this animal is mistreated in the circus. Educating the targeted population on the issue will help enforce the animal rights and dignity in the society.
Conclusion
Finally, wild animals are creatures whose natural environment is in the forest. They can socialize and do everyday activities that benefit their life such as running, hunting for food, taking care of their young ones among others. Hence, if this animal is restricted in cages, it becomes hectic and stressful to them. Therefore, it is important for the government and the people who engage in this activity to stop and grant these animals their freedom.
