Introduction
Bus travelling has always been a common mode of movement in Belize where most passengers rely on buses to commute daily form school, shopping or work. The highways of Belize are, therefore, very common with buses frequently on hourly and half-hourly basis during peak season (Tabuchi, 2012). In Belizean, and ADO, and buses usually depart and arrive using the main bus terminal of Belize City located at the West Collet Canal. Buses that went directly to Guatemala usually stopped at the Marine terminal in Belize Coty. Other towns and cities also have their bus terminals.
While the most common buses used were the Bluebird school buses, passengers found it very uncomfortable, not well equipped when it comes luggage handling, and they lacked air conditions. While the coaches were very cheap, they only operated during public holidays, on Sundays and were less frequent at per with the schedule they put (Tabuchi, 2012). Usually, the buses were divided into 'regular' meant to use any route and the 'Express' which were also known as the not stop buses that only stayed at the main towns.
When passengers boarded at the bus terminal, they just got themselves a seat because the buses were usually very crowded particularly when one wanted to get to the terminal before the time of departure to get a seat. Luggage was mostly put at the overhead racks, where the conductor will suggest or at the back of the bus (Tabuchi, 2012). All passengers were also cautioned to be on the look out of their luggage. When the bus begins its journey, the takes the transport fee from the adults where the children under two years were left to enjoy the free ride (Tabuchi, 2012). If someone happened to be on the regular bus and intended to get off, they had to go at the front of the bus ask the conductor or driver to stop after reaching their destination.
If a passenger was waiting for a bus at the roadside and they see one, they were required to raise their hand, wave at the bus and hope it will stop if it were a regular bus. The expresses bus in, this case, had stopovers. Every year as the bus stations moved about, they designed schedules that would be a bit different from the previous year (Clark & Hammond, 2010).
