It has always been my ambition to join college once I finished my high school studies. So important was it that I couldn't afford to entertain the thought of failing my exams as it's always mandatory for one to get good grades that would enable them to join a college of their choice. My desire to join college was sparked and fuelled by the fact that I have always been an outgoing person and so I thought that college would be the best place to let myself loose and enjoy my youthful years to the fullest. The idea of meeting new people, making new friends, and the freedom that comes along with being in college away from parents made it impossible for me to resist the urge of seeing myself to college. I knew it would be an incredibly fun place to be. With all that and much more to be expected, I have always been keen on undertaking activities that would assure me of a slot in college.
Aside from attending college just for the sake of having fun, I have always been dreaming of having a career that would assure me of a better happy life in future. A life characterized by financial freedom and stability and the ability to provide for my future family and ensure that they never lack anything. The current trends in the world require one to be educated to enjoy the luxuries that life has to offer. The job market is so selective when it comes to offering employment opportunities favoring those that have a good educational background while dismissing those that do not possess the necessary academic qualifications. The thought of missing out on available job opportunities, therefore, played a very significant role in my desire to join college. This, coupled with the fact that everybody in my family was a college graduate, added on to the pressure of making it to college.
If I was not in college, I think my life would've been a total mess. My days would be long and tedious with no friends to hang out with who are as fun as my current college friends. Maybe I would have resorted to delinquent behaviors like drug taking and hanging out with misleading friends. Or maybe, just maybe, I would be involved in voluntary charitable activities like visiting homeless people and orphans. It has always been a part of me to extend a helping hand to those that need it and make people feel appreciated and loved. I guess that's why it's so easy for me to make new friends.
However, after conducting interviews, the interviewees made my whole thinking concerning college change. The insights that they provided opened my eyes and made me View College for what it was meant for and not what we, young college going students, thought it to be. One of them advised of college being a place where people go to expand their thinking and reason differently from people who never stepped in college. His take was that a college is a place that changes the perception of people concerning life and makes them view life in a different light. The second interviewee advised that college was to be thought of as a place where one goes to form networks through valuable friendships that would prove useful in future. It was not only meant to be a learning institution but a place where people interact and improve on the social side of their lives. My thinking regarding college changed since then because I knew very well that there was always life after the fun in college. I now desire to be a figure to be emulated in the society, a person who'll be a perfect example of what college can do and how it can transform one's thinking pattern. I now believe that I'm on the perfect path to realizing myself, expecting to reap maximum possible benefits of being a college graduate later in life.
