Introduction
In the poem, the fish by Elizabeth Bishop 1911 - 1979, presents an objective narrative within the poem through the speakers and since then granted one of the most attentive, detailed, and sharp and beautifully formed poems within the 20th century. It is imperative to note that, the persona (speaker) catches a massive piece of fish while fishing with a rented boat along the shore and this forms the ultimate central concerns in the entire poem(Ferguson& Salter 2018). Upon holding the fish, she studied the fish for a while holding it up half dipped in the water alongside the boat. According to the speaker, the pretty looking fish which is symbolic in this context invaded and surrounded by some growing algae but still attached by some five fishing hooks and the line even partly hanged around its jaw.
The human nature of the speaker evidenced while holding the fish and her love for the suffering fish on the hook forms the fundamental point of discussion in this paper(Ferguson& Salter 2018). By considering the magnitude of the struggle, the fish has undergone, and the rough times it had in water provided the point of the respect witnessed in the entire poem. Also, as the events in the poem unfold, the oil spillage in the on the boat makes a sparkled rainbow colour which emotionally carries the speaker away and finally releases the fish back into the water. The struggles and suffering that people experienced in the society may be due to the inhumane nature of the greedy personalities which do take advantage of the critical situation they are subjected.
Following the in-depth analysis of the poem, the title "The Fish "which in this context symbolically helps build the innate understanding of the reader to the literary meaning of the entire poem. Ultimately, the narrative in the poem as revealed by the poet through the speaker as a fisherperson creates the relevancy and consistency in the mind of the reader and hence provides a clear platform upon which the interpretations and general analysis conducted. Notably, the persona (speaker) as revealed in the poem is fisher person "I caught a tremendous fish" whom in the daily routine of fishing on a borrowed boat catch a fish which later reveals her innate humane character in the entire poem. Significantly, about the setting of the poem "The Fish" the period in which the setting occurs is dated to the pre-colonial era as depicted by the economic activity in the poem (Malay, 2018). Similarly, according to the environment, the poet categorically designed the actual place around the lake a depicted in the entire poem.
Interestingly the fish caught which speckled with "barnacles "is that one new word unusual but used in the poem as a point of reflection on how beautiful the character of fish is, that it never deserves to die. On the other hand, that point of consideration is a vital character which often saves the individuals from the danger laid upon them by the others. When she decided to let go of the fish back into water forms the unusual tragic and unexpected occurrence and a human character which help salvage the ailing individuals stuck in hard situations (Malay, 2018).
Ultimately, the feeling created in the poem is relatively sympathetic in the manner in which the speaker demonstrates her innate compassion to the beautiful fish that seem to be in danger ", and I let the fish go". Based on this attitude, the reader is left feeling a little sympathetic to the situation found on the innocent fish. Based on the concern of this paper, several people with desirable behaviours do face some conditioned challenges and subjected to the tricky situations just like the fish in the poem, but it takes only those individuals whose personality befits humans to save the one from such challenging conditions (Malay, 2018).
A critical analysis of the poem "The Fish" literally implies a traumatising situation which befalls many in the society following the conditioned trap laid by the opponents in the organisation. On the other hand, based on the beauty and humility alongside patience witnessed on the innocent fish, the speaker therefore uses this as the central point to save the troubled fish. As the events unfold in the poem, we acknowledge the sensitive and humble nature as witnessed in a manner in which she finally decided to go off the fish back to its home. It is imperative to note that, several instances in the society are significantly associated with the situation that the innocent fish find itself, like in this case, whenever one is trapped into a problematic situation basically tolerance accompanied by patients as depicted in the manner in which the fish laid calm is a virtue worth appreciating in the society (Ferguson& Salter 2018).
Conclusion
In summary, the virtue of humility and the human trait as depicted by the speaker in the entire poem is symbolical but helps different people trapped in the difficult situation. On the same account, the kind resolutions made similar to the decision made by the speaker in the poem after that noticing the beautiful traits decided to save its life (Ferguson& Salter 2018).
