Allied Beauty Association (ABA), is a non-profit Canadian-based organization that deals in the supply, distribution on hair and nail products to a lot over 90% of the professional beauty enterprises in Canada. The organization is responsible for the maintenance of trade associations between manufacturers, distributors of beauty products. The company was founded in 1934 and later incorporated in 1057. It has grown from an initial three manufacturers and two distributors to a large conglomerate of organizations. As of 2016, the company has grown to 26 corporate members. In an industry where there are many different products, manufacturers, and distributors, there is a need for different logistical challenges present themselves. Keeping up with producer and consumer trends and establishment of industry policy.
ABA is a company that seeks to mitigate the financial investment that these stakeholders have to use in distribution and management of the supply chain. Other than offering a platform for the fair trade of cosmetic products, ABA also is very observant of the industry standards. Being part of the cosmetic industry, different manufacturers work with chemicals that consumers directly apply to themselves. It, therefore, is important to maintain some level of regulation in terms of the chemicals used in the production of cosmetic products. The organization is responsible for the establishment and maintenance of industry standards. Issues like the associations between stakeholders, collaborative distribution, production of product fall under the umbrella support function ABA provides different industry players.
The companys goal is to provide the necessary support that its members need to produce and distribute the cosmetic products it supplies continually. The company encourages its members to interact in a respectful manner. They encourage goodwill and understanding amongst the market players. To ensure that these standards are maintained, the company hosts five major cosmetic shows across Canada. The annual event takes a tour across five major cities in Canada, inviting different clients and industry players. The goal of the show is to share information on industry products and exhibit some of the new products that companies may have been producing. The shows also offer industry players an opportunity to learn from the competition and advance the industry through the collaborative development of cosmetic products. The shows often realize over 30000 beauty professionals in total. It is a testament to the reach that the company has made in the Canadian beauty industry
Other than the display of cosmetic products and the discussion of industry development, these shows often make for perfect places where the different players can make seminars on the importance of some of the new products and services they offer. Important individuals also improve the ethical and practices standards in their businesses. Seminars on experimental and advanced practice methods also take place in each of the towns that the show tours. Some of the issues that are discussed in these seminars include color, beauty, mood, and art. The history of fashion, cosmetics among other interesting topics are also discussed. Producers are also educated on the consumer trends in bot male and female cosmetics and fashion. Additionally, the company organizes 35 competitions annually. In these competitions, the professionals in the Canadian cosmetic industry often compete in some different categories. The idea is to promote an innovative and competitive industry where all members are diligent in advancing the cosmetic industry.
