Attar, the author, emphasized the way people move towards their needs and the motivation that guides them. For example, people who desire fame, richness, and glory are attracted to activities that can give them these desires. The people who are in search for spirituality seek God and follow His ways. The poem also explains that sometimes the valuable assets are hidden in whatever looks unattractive and people should understand this. Sometimes the good and shiny things are harmful. One of the lines states how moths move to the bright fire only to burn later. Human beings follow the satisfaction of their hearts and they need God's guidance to achieve them. In the valley of the quest, the author indicates the dangers of blindly following the wishes of the heart and not involving God. The human cravings are evil, as explained in this valley, and any war against these quests is for the good of the humans. In this valley, patience and not lamenting about whatever is lost are some of the qualities that human beings require. The knowledge can be applied in the modern situation when one looks for a job and the desires of their life make them impatient and unsatisfied about what they have.

The Valley of Detachment

The main theme in the valley is acceptance and thanksgiving and the author explained how people can achieve their happiness if they accept what they have and give thanks for it. The author explains that when God wants something to happen, it happens. For example, if He wants an ant to have the strength of 100 elephants, then it can happen. The author also shows the mightiness of God and explains how thousands of creatures perished when they failed to obey God and did not follow what Noah instructed. The valley explains the need to become independent and detach from the worldly things that keep people away from God. It also explains the need to how apprehension for what people have and to show gratitude for the available things.

The theory explained in this valley can be understood that people should dedicate all their energy to the work they do. They should use their energy to ensure success in the things they do and reduce the impacts of the forces around them. One should stay away from distractions that reduce their work efficiency. The other view is that people need to accept the spiritual guidance they have acquired and use it to make decisions and improve their lives. Overconfident people, those enslaved by knowledge and those who do not what is happening around them, cannot succeed in proceeding to the other valleys. The spiritual power may not be as they appear. An example of a parable used to explain this is that here, neither new nor old attempts prevail. It means that the valley favors those who accept the past and embrace the current and the future. A modern case where the knowledge can be used is when one is working in a new environment and needs to concentrate on their work and avoid focusing on their past.

The Valley of Unity

The main aim of the valley is unity or togetherness. The valley focuses on the oneness of the people who have come from the valley of the quest. The author explains that all of the people in the valley are one, regardless of how different they may look. The main theme can be seen where the author wrote the following:

"Their various necks by one tight collar bound - If you see many here or but a few, they're one, however, they appear to you. The many here are merged in one; one form." (On page 207)

In this part, the riches, glory, and fame are given a lower value and they do not define people. In other words, those who have these possessions and those who do not have them are all the same. At this point, the wealth of the individuals does not matter. What matters is their spiritual richness. The author shows that at his point, people are relieved from their power and possessions and granted a chance to understand their purpose in life. They are also expected to understand that they should not fear losing support and possessions. When people merge into one, they should have the same characteristics. Therefore, one people get to this valley, they ought to have one belief, one God and one direction. The feelings of solitude are expected when people do not have others to rely on. However, spiritual guidance helps them overcome this challenge. The knowledge from this valley can be used in cases where people have acquired self-actualization and avoid having friends. It can be applied to offer guidance to the people who tend to stay away from others because they feel richer than them. Worldly possessions are not valuable in God's eyes and it is important to focus on unity and following spiritual guidance.
