Introduction
Religious cosmology is vital to religion. It is utilized while explaining the technical order of how cosmos (universe) came to existence from a religious perspective. As well, It elaborates the current structure of the world and the previous evolutionary events that led to the cosmos being the way it is (Robinson 47-56). This essay aims at giving more elaborate facts as to why cosmology is necessary to religion.
Every religion is based on cosmology because the main aim of every religion is to answer the question of why the universe came into existence. Several questions that religion needs to answer include; why Man came to earth, who is his creator, how did the earth come into existence, does man gain a better status from the creation story?
In Christianity, the creation story plays a significant role in making us understand how everything we see today came into existence and everything today is the way it is. The creation story describes in detail why Man came into existence. The process elaborates the status of man as the most valuable creature of all the creatures that God created (Robinson 47-56). Before creating man, God said, "Let us make man in our image, after our likeness" (Genesis 1:26).
Secondly, Man realizes his value as the essential creature with the power to take care of all other animals and God's creations; this alone is a critical aspect in religion since every religion takes a stand to give light on the purpose of man on earth.
Another critical concern in the creation story that makes it vital to religion is that it is from the story that we realize our origin; this makes us develop respect and honor for the creator. The knowledge of our creator makes us gain the belief in his commands which we eventually obey and live by. Every religion aims at shaping followers who believe in a supernatural being. Christians believe in God, his magical powers and commandments. When we believe in God, we follow the laws associated with Christian faith (Messenger).
Even more importantly, whenever a Christian remembers about the creation, the fall, and the redemption story, they have everything about the Bible summarized in their heads as they realize how important they are for being created, the purpose they are created to live and the eventual redemption. They develop hope that gives them an even stronger faith in God.
The Bible tells that God is creative, strong, is in control and will always be in control. In 2 Corinthians 4:6, Paul Paul stresses on the events that happened during creation to prove the power of God. He says that the very God who separated day from the night will make our hearts shine with light for the knowledge and God's glory in Jesus Christ's face; This compliments the supernatural power of God just as seen in the book of Genesis when He created day and night.
Conclusion
To conclude, every religion aims at describing how everything came into existence, who is responsible for everything being the way it is and the reasons why we need to obey him. The story of creation in its different forms acts as the base that holds every understanding of who God is and what he is capable of doing. It is from this point where every believer gets to understand who God is, his powers and why respecting and abiding by his commandments is crucial to Christians.
