The United States of America is a country located on the continent of North America. Initially, only the Native Americans lived in the United States of America but colonialism changed all of this. The English people started to arrive in 1607 and they settled and established a town known as Jamestown in Virginia. Later on people from France, Netherlands and Spain came to the United States of America. In 1775 a war broke out and the different colonies in America went to war with each other . The colonies were against the British laws which had been reformed from the policies that were in existence at the beginning of the colonial era. In the following year, the leaders of these colonies created the United States declaration of independence. The rebels ended up victors in the war and they formed a new nation. The later ratified the new constitution in 1787 and the bill of rights in 1791. The result was one of the rebel leaders George Washington became the country's first president. At the beginning of the 19th century, USA gained more land to the west and stared its industrial journey.
In 1861 some states in the south broke away from United States of America and created the Confederate States of America. The breakaway by those states is what led to the American civil war between 1861-1865. When the civil war ended immigration into the country resumed and this period so the United States of America progress to become one of the richest countries in the world. by the beginning of the 20th century, the USA had become a superpower in the world. it was involved in both world war 1 and world war 2. Religion in the United States of America is protected under the first amendment which states that a government should not have control over religion and should allow people to express themselves freely. Most Americans assert that religion plays a significant role in how they conduct themselves in their lives. In most developed countries religion is not that important but with the USA it's very different. The USA has been a home to many religions which come from all over the world. They come to America and gain easy acceptance. Most American citizens are Christians which is about 1 percent of the total population while Islam, Judaism, Hinduism, and others make a percentage of 6 percent of the total adult population. The US has more Christians in the world than any other region in the world. in America politician often mix religion in their campaigns and most religious figures in America are politically active. Jefferson the 3rd president of USA almost never made I to the white house due to his views which were thought to be anti-Christianity. His won came about when he changed the narrative during the campaign from shining light on his own religion to people tolerating each other's religion. The religious organizations do not have the monopoly of power because if they decide to openly endorse one candidate may lead to their organization from being excluded from taxes. There are Christians in both sides of the divide i.e in the democratic and republican party. The Republican Party mostly has evangelical Christians while the Democratic Party has liberal Christians. Fundamentalist religious persons engage highly in mainstream political activities than any other American.
The gender roles in United States of America have changed over time. The US has moved from a family which is dependent on one spouse who is usually the man to a dual income family where both man and woman are employed. Before the emergence of feminism in the United States of America, women were not seen doing any kind of employment and mainly dealt with home matters. On the other hand, men were in the workforce and their job was to support the family. critics say that this system was rather a sexist system. Other people assert that this structure represented the division of labor and roles that were in place in the society at that time. Basically, the men had their role in the community and the women had their designated role in the society. In the present USA has changed from the discrimination of women to a system which supports equality. Currently, there are more women than men admitted to the universities and it expected the number of women graduates with degrees is on the rise. Back in 2005, 22 percent of American families had two income earners i.e husband and wife. However, it should be noted that women are still expected to take care of the home.
The United States of America is a society with individualistic cultures. The system in the US encourages personal success even though it was a collective objective of the group. Individualism can be reflected all through the American society from the way you pay for movies to the company structure. Individualism is deeply ingrained in American society. The American people are easily affected by loneliness because of their individualism. The positive thing about this culture is hat US has many people who are doers and independent-minded. Individualistic people are often not loud and are viewed as realists. There exists a correlation between American society and their individualistic way of life. The attitude and the zeal wich the American people have towards work and success is all attributed to the individualistic culture. For instance, one of the characteristics of an individualistic person is a person who advocates for personal goals, and initiative. The American economy has been built on the vision of strong men and women who were not swayed by collective thinking.
There is a strong difference between American communication and Jordanian communication. First, the US is under a presidential system while Jordan is under a monarchy where it has a king, the position of prime minister and the parliament. Jordan is a collective society where the rights of a person do not supersede the rights of the community. In the US people are encouraged to do what they consider is best for them. on the other hand, the Jordanian society takes each person to be an active member in the community and everything a person does is for the benefit of society as a whole.
