Introduction
The changes in race, population size, and ethnicity mainly affect health-care resources that are required, the conditions that are associated with each population group, and the cost to provide the care. Necessarily, the healthcare firms have to adjust quickly to meet the needs and requirement of their patients and at the same time address the healthcare reforms requirements. The United States population is in the midst of significant changes as more Americans are getting older and living longer, increased racial and ethnic diversity. Success in transformative and the threatened markets require organizations to regularly reassess the strategic direction to take, absorb and anticipate change, act with deliberate speed, and generate situational-driven strategic insights. The healthcare marketers have to rethink basic assumptions, break down silos, challenge institutional bias, and force debates based on around longstanding approaches to marketing.
The Increasing Number and Age of Elderly People
The number of individuals aged 65 years and above is projected to over an estimated 1.5 billion people by the year 2050 (Ellison 554). The rapid increase in the population of older adults is attributed to a raising change in the leading case of death. This is because there is a high number of people dying from chronic noncommunicable diseases from infections which increase life expectancy. The chronic conditions include hypertension, heart disease, congestive heart failure, diabetes, and dementia. Managing these conditions and the high patient disability, increase the financial demands on the healthcare system.
Moreover, the cost increase with the number of conditions that an individual is managing and taking into account that by the end of 2030 there are expected to be twice as many hospital admissions and also physician visits (Ellison 557). Moreover, there are some conditions there are expected to constrain the healthcare system with the rise in the aging population. These conditions mainly include diabetes, obesity, increased number of falls, dementia, and cancer.
The Increasing Number of Women in the Workforce
In nearly, every nation in the world, men have a higher likelihood of participating in the labor markets that women. Nevertheless, these gender disparities have narrowed substantially over the past few decades. The healthcare system remains one of the female-dominated areas will the women making about 40 percent of the workforce. Primarily, women make up more than 76% of hospital employees. Similarly, 88% of home healthcare workers is made up of women (Ellison 556). However, with still such high numbers in the health care workforce the primary decision-makers are men. Women are known to be team players and work for long hours and even multitask during there shifts. This is crucial in healthcare service delivery service will be offered efficiently and effectively. With the increasing number of women in leadership positions means that women will play an essential role in the decision-making process in the issues that affect them as they make the more significant number of workers will over 80%.
The Trend Towards Smaller Families
In developed and developing nations there has been a trend towards smaller families, and this can be attributed to late marriage, the high cost of living, and growth in technology. Having a more modest family means that the healthcare expenses are manageable as only a few people will it be included under one or two breadwinners (Bendix and Susanne 274). This is essential in improving the quality of healthcare services offered on the individuals as the follow-up cases will be quickly done are the number f patients or individuals is few. Similarly, the government will spend less on healthcare as it will have very few individuals to consider or take care off. Such fund will be diverted to other needy areas in the healthcare system. Moreover, healthcare workers will no have to work overtime or under pressure to serve many as the trend towards smaller families reduces the number of patients.
The Growth of Hispanic Population
Over the past few decades, the Hispanic population has grown to nearly over 20% percent of the total population in the United States. Primarily, they are subjected to dramatic health disparities are compared to whites. Their increase in population means that the government will have to spend more on healthcare to provide quality service. This means that there will be new infrastructure in place to accommodate the increasing population (Velasco-Mondragon, Jimenez, Palladino-Davis, Davis, Escamilla-Cejudo). Moreover, the government and healthcare providers will have to employ more doctors who understand their language to reduce language barriers as most of the Hispanic community cannot communicate in English. This mainly results in work diversity which is not as common as the majority of the health insurance leaders, nurses, doctors, and brokers are whites and native Americans.
